Hey guys, I used my MacBook today normally as I would, and I left it open and went to work. When I came back home from work, I expected to have all my messages populated from conversations I had earlier in the day on my iPhone. To my surprised only a handful of messages showed up, and every conversation I clicked on had either no chat history to load, or just the most recent messages.

So I restarted the Messages app, hoping that would fix the issue. Of course, it did not.

So now I'm missing 2+ years worth of messages from the Messages app, but the archives are still on my computer, and the attachments are still taking up space.

What can I do to get everything back in place in the app?? It's particularly weird because I didn't do anything out of the ordinary today, and my computer wasn't used while I was away at work. I literally came home, and woke it out of sleep to this issue.

Additional info: Every person I've had a conversation with is still there to the left of the conversation window, it's just when you click on each person's name, there's no message history for anyone. It's only storing the most recent messages aka the one I just sent.

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro w/ Retina on Yosemite 10.10.4.

Any input would be greatly appreciated guys :(

same thing happened to me , I also have the same macBook but was running 10.10.2 when it happened . It still didn't fix itself .. it happened because I was out of free space maybe .. Anyway using Yosemite has been one of my worst apple experiences .

I think when you run out of space it turns this pref off. Try turning it back on.

UPDATE this didn't work for me..

Had been running out of space when Messages.app threatened to delete new incoming messages. Then found that tick box off. But still my convos are all empty..
