That at the end of the day, nobody really know jack ****. It amazes me that people are literally paid to write articles about stuff that they get from "insiders", 90% of which turns out to be completely bogus.

I'm not blaming the reporters themselves, because it's their job, but it's just a joke. I mean, I'm as guilty as the next guy of taking the bait and buying these rumors sometimes, but this specific instance has really just opened my eyes and made me realize what a farce the whole system is.

Valid points, OP. I suppose it's the nature of "tech blogging" and "rumor" sites. No one can really blame it; if one can't handle the game that's played here, they're welcomed to merely visit the Apple website for updates. After all, it doesn't get more official than being up on the Apple site. It really is amazing that bloggers get paid for this, but there is certainly an audience for it too. They report what they hear or think will be legit, and that's all there is to it, and we as consumers either jump on it, or can choose to ignore it. In many ways, the forces to blame are partly the tech-explosion, and really the Apple fanboyism; they created this need for any and every morsel and nugget of information regarding Apple.

In many ways though, it ultimately benefits us. We are as informed ("informed" really) as can be before making a decision on Apple purchases. If it weren't for all these rumors and speculations (imagine if nothing ever spilled out or if rumors never got to us) we'd have all gone out and bought Airs. Many, in fact, almost all recent posts regarding Airs, have stated they would wait due to the rumored refresh. Ultimately, that benefits us.

It is what it is. It's all together exciting, frustrating, appeasing, and disappointing. -__-'

There will be newer model in like April-May next year.

Backlit Keyboard would be the only thing that would get me interested, but it won't be enough.

I do not like Sandy Bridge. I hate Sandy Bridge. CPU performance is good, but GPU gets way worse with intel graphic card.

Apple is adding Thunderbolt and faster CPU?

Well guess what... in about 8-9 months, apple will add IVY Bridge and USB 3.0 on the next Macbook air.

I find USB 3.0 and Ivy Bridge way more useful than sandy Bridge and Thunderbolt.

I have heard so many complains from MBP users about how their MBP overheats with sandy bridge. Good luck with MBA.

It's all apart of their marketing strategy i'm sure. Make the old models feel ancient so you will be inclined to buy the newer ones even if you just bought the older model 9 months ago...

Maybe it's just me but I don't see the grand significance of a backlit keyboard. But perhaps that's because I have been using a late 2006 Macbook for the past four and a half years.

They can't seem to get release dates right but eventually they do get some details (specs) right before release. So it aint all bad.

Good point I started off checking out MR to know when to buy an iPod the got caught reading every rumor every day annoyed all my friends about them then started posting in the forums to relieve my need to discuss apple news.

I only want backlit keyboard because it looks cool. I do not look at keyboard at all. I have typed enough times in my life that I can type with my eyes closed.
Backlit keyboard will only make your battery life worse. Sure, you can turn it off, but it's another part that is inside that is chewing up your battery. I would love to see how apple will pull off on this with 11 inch model.

Same! That's why I don't understand why people make it seem like it's so important. All of these years I have learned to navigate without it, not that it isn't a cool feature but certainly not a deal breaker to me.

At least writers start off as "enthusiasts" so their ability to spin a non-story is rooted in years of doing exactly that with their friends and on boards.

The real criminals are the "Analysts". These people have no name and no credentials, yet they can come out of nowhere with a "Sources close to Apple reveal that blah blah blah", have the story picked up and have no liability when it doesnt come true. They just present speculation as "almost fact" in order to get geek-famous and unfortunately it works.

I know I'm adding to the rant but I love Apple products, and I love the thrill of rumor sites. But it is frustrating to be so dedicated to a brand and "feel" treated like an ATM card.

The business is based on getting the latest scoop; even if it's all wrong there really aren't any risks here; it's not like you'll get sued for writing the wrong article on the next generation Mac. So everyone who thinks they may have something will write.

I'm buying a MacBook Air because I already bought one and decided to return it for an updated model, because I don't actually need one that badly.

It's not like I don't have 3 Macs to use already.
