All the issues with my MacBook Pro (future owners, read)

1. The whining noise:

Some people can stand it, others can't. I am one of those that can't stand it and can hear it clearly.

2. Airport Extreme:

The computer fails to join my preferred networks even though I have it set up to do so. I have to manually click my network everytime I log-in.

3. Short Battery Life:

I'm getting only a little over 2 hours with better battery life settings and a half lit display... About the same life as the powerbook my @$$! 2 hours is terrible if you ask me. No wonder Apple did not rate the battery life on the site. It would definitely steer some customers away.

4. Heat:

The MBP gets extremely hot, even if not running games or movies. The extreme temperature areas are right above the keyboard, the bottom of the laptop, and the top of the speaker grills.

For a $2,700 laptop (after tax in CA), you'd expect a lot more.

You won't just get a Rev B as in faster/better components. If they do some reengineering to the logic board you may possibly get one if you have a failure, but seeing as how Apple has yet to admit there is a problem...

Seriously, no humming, 3.5-4 hour battery,
and hot only when processor is heavily taxed.

It's terrible for someone who uses it for work like me. I do a lot of photoshop work in a quiet environment and the noise really bugs me at times. Forgot about setting the MBP on my lap, it will fry the crap out of my legs. I can't seem to work on a project without making sure my adapter is with me. And I also shouldn't have to dim my display down to 30 percent just to get another hours battery life.

Pissed off because I could have bought a 3.0 ghz Dell in a slightly thicker housing w/ similar performance and a 17" screen.

Well, I do have all four of these "issues". However, none of these warrant me wanting to wait for a Rev. B

1.) Yes, it does sometimes whine. Very rarely for me though.
2.) Airport Extreme was nerve-racking at first, but with a time you can have it running with your preferred networks.
3.) It's a laptop.
4.) It's a laptop. Both of these issues can relate to a large number of laptops. It is not like I'm going to touch the end of the book to my face.

Although, $2700 is a lot of money. I got a 2.0 7200rpm HD model for about $500 less. (Ed Discount)

Yes I get more than 2 hours battery life.

Its only hot when doing processor intensive work, but not when doing "nothing". Also if you search, you will find instructions on how to disable one of your cores when you dont need it, it should help you with your heat issue, I haven tried it yet though.
Again if you search you will see WHY it gets so hot, ppl have explained the necessity for it to get hot.

I got mine I believe it was March 8th or 9th.

I get around 3.5 hours battery life doing simple stuff... typing, etc
Light whine... could be the HDD, fans. Compared to my eMac it emits no noise at all!
The heat makes it that much more snuggly... besides, the case is one giant heatsink. Imagine if we kept all that heat trapped inside!
Best AP reception EVER!!!!!!!! And it logs on without any problems.

Unfortunately a very common complaint on this version. theories abound, but no solid answers.

2. Airport Extreme:

The various network issues with all of the Intel Macs have me waiting; there have been reports of similar issues with the MBP. iMac, and Mini. I refuse to buy any of the current models until the issues are fixed (and yes, there are at least 2 major issues here).

3. Short Battery Life:

Welcome to the world of Intel! Macs have always gotten better battery life than any Intel laptop with a similar battery setup. AMD is worse.

4. Heat:

This has been an issue ever since the aluminum PBs came out, but it does indeed seem to be worse with the MBP according to the forums.

Issues I have.
1: the noise is definityl there, I have come to the conclusion that it has to do with the processor. the same noise used to happen with my powerbok, but rarely, this happen all the time. the more heavily the processor is used, the less noise it produces. it is a terrible sound. sounds like the noise a television makes when it is on mute. also, i think i should add, its only when its running off of battery. and if i touch the trackpad and scroll, it stops whilest im scroilling, then starts again as soon as i stop.
2: it does not auto join my networks most of the time, im not worried about this as i think it is a software issue that will be fixed shortly.
3: heat, it does run hot, but not soo much that I would send it back. its dealable.
4: battery life. completely honestly, just surfing the web and ichat, via wireless, i get 2.5 hours on full brightness. the only thing that is off is bluetooth. i would have expected better, but i can deal. the screen is EXTREEMLY bright, probably the only time ive ever had to turn down the brightness for me to use it at night.
my only issue with this magnificent laptop is the noise thing. it really does bother me. its like a chalkboard scratch in the back of my head. when someone reports to me apple has addmited to this problem, I am probably going to send it back, and get one without this problem. other than that, this thing is amazing.
go apple, just fix the bugs.

Good to know you are experiencing similar dissatisfactions. I do agree that the machine is killer (I produced a sharp DVD yesterday using iDVD with no issues (of course it was set on my desk, no way in hell I can deal with the heat on my lap). It bothers me that Apple is always in a hurry to get their products out fast without thorough testing for bugs/issues/etc. This is why the nano was scratch happy (the screen, back cover, AND front cover).

After full charge, I disconnected the laptop just to see how long the battery lasts.

During that time, I played World of Warcraft.
Ran one instance run and after that i even had time to check auction and chat.

Overall, it lasted about 2 hrs and 20 min. (with no extra software running on background... lowest brightness setting.. and all wireless stuff off)

Considering that WoW is a pretty intensive task... I'm very satisfied with the result.
Also I agree that the laptop gets pretty darn hot. However, after I put the MBP on the external cooler pad i bought long ago, it cooled down.

As long as i do web, mail, and programing (not intensive complie or such stuff), the laptop is pretty much cool.

wasn't it like 1/10th of 1% that were mega scratch happy? Of course you'll never hear of all the people that had good experiences. Thats just not interesting in our media hungry world.

I must be one of the few lucky ones! I don't have any issues with mine. 2.0 stock model and there is no whine, in fact I don't hear any noise at all. Keep in mind I have had a Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Sony, and a crappy Dell! Heat give me a break I have my MBP on my lap all the time and it doesn't get any more hot than any of the other mentioned notebooks above. I just can't believe someone started another thread with the same information. Can't we find something else to discuss other than bringing up the same things over and over.
