All Vista versions capable with iMac? How about speed?

Hi everyone,

I just upgrade from Tiger to Leopard on my new iMac yesterday. with the bootcamp provided, I am thinking if I should install Windows XP or Vista on the iMac to make it the All-In-One machine. And I need the help from you guys.

1. Is that all vista ultimate versions suitable on the iMac?
2. I heard that install another operating system, e.g. Windows on the mac with lower the performance of the machine, making it slower even when you use Mac OS X. Is that true? If that is the case, isn't that we should not install anything else on Mac but just focus on Leopard? So what is the use of Bootcamp?

All 32-bit versions are officially supported. I've heard it is possible to get the 64-bit versions running with some hacking but Apple does not support this in Boot Camp.

I've never heard this. I use Vista Ultimate myself and my iMac runs as fast as it did before I installed Boot Camp. Boot Camp repartitions your hard disk and this shouldn't affect your computing in Leopard in any way. Obviously, depending on how much RAM you have installed if you use Parallels or Fusion to access the Boot Camp install from within Leopard you will then share resources and could see a slowdown. I recommend installing 4GB of RAM in that case. Once I did that Leopard and Boot Camp run simultaneously at almost native speeds.

So I am going to install Vista Ultimate to the iMac. I think we have the same type of iMac

So how is the performance of Ultimate on your iMac after you installed it with Bootcamp?

Is that I follow the steps in the instructions of Apple Guide to use Bootcamp then it should be fine without any errors for the installation? I am afraid that I am not able to handle it when it happens...

The only trouble of run VISTA is the heat.
With XP, the machine work ok not super heat.
I have aluminium imac 20 2.4ghz

just for future reference... if you do decide to run your boot camp partition virtually via vmware fusion or parallels only vista ultimate and enterprise are allowed to be run virtually according to the eula license agreement
