Ok, I was able to place the ram in Riser A which was 2x1gig and 2x512mb. Thats a total of 3 gigs worked fine under Mac os X but under windows XP it would recognize 2 gigs. Does anyone know how to allocated my memory to give the best performance.

For maximum performance you want to use slots 1&2 on Riser A, then slots 1&2 on Riser B followed by slots 3&4 on A then B.
You may need to use a boot switch to get XP to recognise more than 2Gb of RAM, although I'm not sure.

wait so you put ALL your ram on one riser? I'm surprised it worked very well at all since Apple makes it pretty clear to keep the ram separated if possible (ie. 2 gigs on one riser, 1 gig on the other) Also, I put my ram in with the larger Dimms on the first riser and the smaller on the second, I don't know if it really makes a difference or not...but it might?
I just got my mac pro today and that is what I did and everything worked out fine.
2 x 1gig on A 1 &2
2 x 512 on B 1 & 2
