Does anyone know if SpeakEvents can be configured only to be active when charging...the way Aloud can?

Looking at the two it looks like it can't. Both can be disabled based on a time range, which is good.

It seems like SpeakEvents can handle multiple notifications a little better.

I wish one or the other could read, say, the first 50 characters in the body of an email. Right now it's all or nothing.

I'm thinking of getting one of these for when I'm in the car.

Please chime in if you have any opinion on them.
