Two for me. My car adapter and my Sony headphones that weren't cheap either. I still don't understand why the headphone jack wasn't a standard size. Oh well, at least it wasn't that hard to cut.
none. i got a splitter that fits just fine, I don't care much about the added bulk.
I built a small extension cable (ergo the one that Griffin/Belkin are selling) out of an old headphone extension cable. I just shaved one end and shortened the cable so that it was a few inches of bendy goodness long. Fits me fine.
non standard heap phone jack??Why? the iPod headphones are terrible!
Ok. what possessed apple to recess the jack? I'm sure a fanboy can ring in here with a positive.![]()
You might be correct. I don't know, it's ok to reinvent the wheel sometimes (the entire iphone), but why mess with a standard (headphone jack)?
And that's fine for someone with less-than-stellar audio standards (i.e. the iphone's headset). Buy I'd like to connect quality headphones without marring them (they fit it 99.99% of stereos). There was no reason to honkup a perfectly good standard.

I am pretty sure the headphone jack design is to prevent a repeat of early ipods. The jack would crack or the solder joints would weaken where the jack connected to the circuit board. By recessing the jack the actual plug becomes strain relief so that accidental yanks pull on the body of the iphone, and NOT on the actual jack.
Here's a reply I got in response to my rant about the recessed jack.
wouldn't you want headphones that have an integrated mic anyway?
I'd like to get the shure headphones for the iPhone, but I don't want to spend the money until they release a headset that can answer and end incoming calls and pause and skip music tracks like the official apple ones can
Honestly I think it's because of the design. They didn't want to break up the silhouette of the iPhone so they recessed it.
Has anyone tried using a dremel or something like that to just take the size down a little bit? Even one of those little ones that comes in the home manicure kits ought to work...![]()
