I still can't believe there is now way to bookmark a spot in the music player when listening to an audio book. One "mis-tap" and you lose your place.

Also, when I try to listen to music and go back to the audiobook it starts over from the beginning. (Is this normal? Can I fix this?).

Would like to find an alternative audio book player.

What's the source of the audiobooks? "Proper" M4B audiobooks self-bookmark.

Not sure if that works with MP3 books now too.

Yes, the position is "remembered" with both MP3 and M4B file types. But the problem is you have to flick through all the chapters (parts) first and find the one that is tagged as, "xxx minutes remaining" to go where you left off. (i.e., it only remembers the position within a chapter... not the book).

Pain in the arse.

And yes, I've been passing this along to Apple since iOS 3. Just figured a full featured alternative would be out by now. I think audio books have evolved to the point where they don't need to share the iPod app. Dunno. Perhaps the audiobook user base isn't as big as I thought.
