Alternative displays?

Two part question. Suddenly I'm getting a glitch visible on photos. There's a greenish outline to images. Ive seen this before when my monitor started going bad. My fault, I'm sure. I never turn it off, but a always use a screen saver. Do what is the cause of what I'm seeing? Am I right? Monitor going bad?

If so, what are some good but inexpensive alternatives to Apple displays? I'm using a Samsung presently. I'm on an upgraded MacPro 2009 3.46 Ghz.

I don't want to spend Apple money. I actually need two. I have two identical MacPros. The monitor died last year in the other one. I've been using a switcher when I need to use the other one, for now. This has been fine up to now. Apple displays are just too expensive for reasons that escape me.

What resolution and size? Do you need 4K?

I personally don't need 4K, and I've been using this Dell 25" monitor. It is WQXD (2560 x 1440). I replaced my 30" cinema display with it and have been super happy.

Reasons I switched from the 30":

• LED Backlight, so doesn't radiate heat, uses less electricity, brighter
• Same resolution (width). I didn't want to give up too much real estate
• Anti-glare matte coating, so it's not reflective like Apple's current displays. (I hate glossy screens!)
  
• Glass front. I do like having a glass front because it protects the monitors from people poking it when pointing.
• Smaller footprint. I liked the 30, but it was taking up too much space on my small desk. The 25 inch fits much more comfortably.

Not sure if it's what you are looking for, but I am extremely happy with the quality, size, and looks.

If you don't need 4K and want a lot of screen space, consider the BenQ BL3200PT. At 2560x1440 it has a ton of screen real estate, with an apparent pixel size about the same as a 24 incher at 1920x1200, and it's relatively inexpensive.

If it's just in photos, I would try running it from a different account first, and see if the discoloration persists.

I have seen this before. I reconnected the cable and its better now. I'll still have to get a second monitor. Do some of you guys have different second monitors when running two? It is that too ghetto?

I have two different same size and resolution monitors. The color slightly different due to its age, but honestly if its secondary display, who cares? I also keep it rotated vertically.

I just bought the first of two Dell UP2716D 27" monitors for my studio to replace one very dodgy BenQ SW2700PT and I couldn't be happier. Matte Screen, thin bezels, multiple USB 3.0 ports...think it cost me just over $500.

Spec wise it covers 100% of the Adobe RGB, 100% of the sRGB, 100% of the REC 709, and 98% of the DCI-P3 color spaces, which is roughly the same as our $1700 EIZOs, so for this price, I think it's a bargain.
