Hey,

I keep getting a message when importing images into Lightroom that there is insufficient space on my mac. Is there a way to get around this? I tried changing the file location of originals to a OneDrive folder but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Any ideas?

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place!

B.

The only option is to buy an external hard drive. Then you’re also need to consider how that external drive is backed up.

Thanks. I thought that would be the case and assume I can just change that in the settings rather than having it in the Cloud which I think doesn't work.

Always the case when considering external hard drives. :)

yes both and some other applications
Cool and do you try to keep both libraries identical? Or do you use just lighroom for editing? I.e. just load photos to edit and then export back to apple photos?

I was thinking of getting LR for editing but figured for the cost I might as well keep a copy of my library in the Adobe cloud as well. Then its another cloud back up.

I do not really use apple photos except for importing photos from my iPhone. All photos from my actual camera or photos I want to edit go into Lightroom. I do not use iCloud for any photos I only use external backups.

Make sure you keep ~30% of your boot disk free.

iCloud is not considered to be a backup solution. Don't think Lightroom Cloud is either. In a 3-2-1 backup plan use a true backup service such as Crashplan, Carbonite or Backblaze.

How much free space is left on your internal boot drive?

If it's not all that much, perhaps it's time to start "moving off" stuff you don't really need there.

A lack of sufficient "free space" could present problems when upgrading the OS, as well.

I use a 1TB SSD in my M2 card slot using a custom short SSD holder. It only sticks out enough to pull our with your strong finger nail. (do a search) I move current files onto the main drive to speed up processing. I'm not sure this is possible if you use the LR file system. I keep all my files in the standard MAC native file system with associated XMP sidecar files. (it is an option in LR preferences). I search and manage the files using Bridge (free when you get LR). The photo data and files are just like any other data and files on your MAC. I think it is much easier to track and backup this way.
