Alternative to Adobe Director?

All I need is to create a self-running CD or DVD that contains a collection of PDF articles that are searchable by keywords. Thanks.

Director is still king of the CD/DVD world but you could build a similar system using Flash and XML then compiling your SWF into a projector file...

Another option is Adobe AIR... these self-running platform independent applications can be made from Flash or Flex, or can be built from more common web technologies...
