is there a program like handbrake that will convert a DVD to .mp4 for my :apple:TV? i cant use handbrake because i only have 256mb of RAM and it's not enough to run the program. i'm running Windows XP

you could use mactheripper and then whatever the replacement of visualhub is these days (coder no longer supports it) but there is a free alternatvie. just forgot the name

i have no idea on the program requirements are though

You can use the Handbrake command line program - http://handbrake.fr/rotation.php?file=HandBrake-0.9.3-Win_CLI.zip - it has minimum requirements of 256MB. It's quite simple to use. I did this to rip my sister-in-law's wedding video on my parents-in-law PC.

Really, RAM is so cheap these days you should upgrade ... you should be able to get 1GB for less than $20.

i can't get it to open, it flashes (opens and closes quickly) the command prompt and nothing happens. but i'm just going to use dvd shrink which rips DVD to my computer in .vob format then i convert that with Videora.

I guess you're running it directly from Run... in Start? If you haven't provided valid parameters that'll just stop immediately.

Open a command window - go to Start -> Run ... -> cmd

You need to provide input and output parameters, plus the preset. Something like this would work (not sure what the program name is in Windows - it's HandbrakeCLI in OS X - and I haven't used this often enough to know the exact format off hand):
HandbrakeCLI.exe -i D:\<dvd> -o c:\file.mp4 -Z Universal

I wonder what CPU you have if you only have 256 ram, you could be in for a huge wait while it encodes!
