Alternative to VueScan?

I am running a Fujitsu fi-5120c double sided document scanner and I am looking for software that is cheaper than VueScan for Mac.

Any suggestions?

I am now testing ExactScan and I am very pleased with the results I am getting. Its fast at scanning, has all the features I want, but its expensive at $80.

Preview

I don't know how many features you need, but your Mac has a scanner program built in that works with many wired or wireless scanners or scanner/printer combos. The program is Preview. Go to the file menu in Preview and choose "Import From" and pick your scanner. It has most basic scanner features and it is free (always a plus). I use it exclusively and find it works well.

My scanner never had Mac OSX drivers so that does not work. Thanks
 
Image Capture is the app you want. It is included in every Mac OS installation. Doesn't require any special drivers and works great!

Not sure if Preview's import from scanner just calls to Image Capture or is a separate app.

You can also scan from system preferences.

They all use the same drivers.

But op said OS X doesn't have the drivers.

And fujitsu seems to not have drivers for OS X.

Neither Preview or Image Capture recognize the Fujitsu S1500M. VueScan or ExactScan both work - about $100 for the full featured version with OCR, etc.
 
I am in the same boat. I think I'll just bite the bullet and go with VueScan. I was planning on using that money to update my favorite 32-bit Mac games to run on Steam for Windows but that can wait.
 
Another recommendation for VueScan. Yes not cheap, but for one-off payment has great functionality and well supported.
 
VueScan is pay for one year of upgrades, but remains fully useable. Or buy pro version for two yesrs price for unlimited updates, including also additional functionality. To me based on usage with past couple of scanners, the pro version was easy choice. And no subscription.
 
My purchase of Vuescan Pro in 2007 has served me well.

It's such a great software package that supports such a mind-boggling array of scanners that I can't imagine realistically using anything else to run an uncommon/obscure scanner short of running old hardware and OSs to run the manufacturers software. I do the latter on things like Nikon scanners, but Vuescan quite literally has never failed me at anything I've thrown at it.
