Hi everyone,
Would someone be able to recommend a good alternative to the xbox 360 controller for gaming on the mac? I'm currently using the xbox 360 controller with the tattiebogle driver (usually for Dolphin gaming), but it often disconnects from lack of use and crashes the OS. Is there a controller out there with a similar layout and good compatibility?

The Logitech F310 is one of the best Mac controllers because it allows you to switch between XInput (Xbox 360) and DirectInput (old-school method of input that's well supported in OS X). Unfortunately, it shares its stick/button layout with the PlayStation DualShock, rather than the Xbox 360.

Most controllers emulate the PlayStation controller layout rather than the Xbox controller layout. If you're amenable to that, then I have some recommendations.

I use a wireless Logitech Rumblepad 2 (there's a USB wireless receiver that it pairs with). It works pretty well, although for certain games you need to toggle which "mode" it's in. It has a PlayStation controller layout.

I also use a PlayStation 3 controller through Bluetooth as a secondary controller. I haven't played as many games with it, but it seems to work very nicely. Now that the PlayStation 4 is out, you can get it somewhat cheap on eBay.

Neither controller required the installation of any software or drivers. I just connect them and go. For gaming on Windows it's a different story, though; I installed the Logitech controller software and things seem to work well. Haven't tested the PlayStation controller in Windows.

Re: the tattiebogle driver: d235j has updated the driver to be more stable. Admittedly, I only have a wired controller as opposed to a wireless one, but I have had no kernel panics since using it.

TBH i feel this is the best controller to game with the mac as most games support vibration feedback with this controller.

That is because OS X currently has no Force Feedback drivers for any other controller. They used to have support, from Apple, For Logitech controllers, but the driver was 32-bit only, and it seems that no one else wanted to update it. You can still find the driver online, but it will not work on 64-bit games.

This is going to sound stupid, but how do you install this? The older versions on the website download as a package but this comes out as a zip.

unrelated but the PS4 controller has plug in play support

pretty neat, sony and apple joining hands in the world of joysticks

you can use wii classic controllers natively with Dolphin, just connect with bluetooth. Wii U pro controller also works without issues.
