Has anyone had their iPod engraved anywhere but through Apple's site? I'm looking at getting a Nano in the next week or so, but I feel like there's just not enough lines for me to engrave what I want on it!

If you have, where'd you get it done, and about how much did it set you back, if you don't mind? Thanks!

Don't get any engraving done. It will make you giggle a few times sure, but will get you less money back if or when you sell it.

No, I'm getting it engraved as resale value is really not a concern here.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me regarding the original question about engraving?

At doPi.be, a Brussels based apple reseller, they engrave your iPod (not voiding your warranty).
Text is free if you buy it from their store (i think they'll do any number of lines as well), a logo can be done if you pay a bit extra, not sure how much.
I'll check their prices if you're interested.
But it's europe here, so the shipping would probably add up.

You should check at places like trophy shops. They usually have some sort of engraving service, and can engrave on most things.

When I worked at a picture frame shop, we got all our engraving done at a place called "Traditions" that sold all sorts of flasks, cigarette cases, trophies, watches, etc... There are often places like this in malls.

One thing you should ask about is the method they use for their engraving since you don't want them to do anything to damage your iPod. It's more of a big deal with the HD based iPods, but it never hurts to ask.

That's a good idea, hadn't thought of those shops. Any particular method of engraving I should avoid?

I would just try to get a feel for how much vibration goes on when they are engraving and the method and strength of whatever means they have to secure the item being engraved (so they don't crush it or anything).
