Man that emulator is so slow. Took 5 minutes of waiting to simply start, and makes visual studio feel like a bullet train.

Any good recommendations apart from the paid basic4android? I am new to this. Trying to start work on a new email app :p

Yeah, that's the arm emulator for you. That's why most test on hardware itself. ;)

Someone recommended IntelliJ IDEA (Community Edition) a few months ago. Is beautifully made.

Hmm thanks. I will look into it.

At the same time i think i will get working on using a real device for that. The emulator just froze up and crashed after 20 mins of inactivity. There is no way i am going to use the bundled emulator anymore.

You'll love it. Pushing stuff to a device is so much easier. I even like using ADB to push my downloaded ROMs and APKs without having to deal with the whole USB storage junk.

And i just ran the hello world program on the nexus (took it out of the box, quickly set up and plugged in, have to factory reset again for sale :( ).

Feels good to see something there even though i haven't made it myself lol.

Time to get working.

First time emulator start up is slow. just dont close it then it will be fast after that. The emulator is part of Android sdk and not eclipse. so it may not help if you use different IDE. I may be wrong though.

Tried it this evening but still the same. It is faster to run the app on a connected phone than emulator every single time.

So I will pass the emulator until it gets better.

Try the x86 Intel image from the Android SDK downloader, its only ICS but works much faster than the ARM ones.
