Hi, i've just registered on here. I've had an aluminium imac 20" since september, and recently the wireless networking has been going crazy. It keeps randomly dropping off the wireless network. When i try to select my network again it will say either connection timed out, connection failed or (most annoyingly) invalid password. The password is saved and has never been changed, and certainly isn't wrong.
Some times i can get back on the network after trying for a while, but on some occasions it takes ages. I've tried using it under windows via bootcamp and had similar problems, mainly getting limited or no connectivity.

I would assume its a router problem or something with my isp, except that both of my housemates use macs and neither have these issues. I'm also a lot closer to the router than they are.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Is it an OS issue (i've updated to 10.5.2 and still get this), or maybe an imac hardware problem?

Lastly i apologize if there's already threads on this, i had a quick look and nothing jumped out

Not sure this entirely helps but I've seen it on one iMac and then not on another.

My first Al iMac took a while to connect and occasionally wouldn't re-connect automatically, requiring manual intervention. It was a wk 43 one. It was like that with both Tiger and Leopard.

It was stolen and I now have a week 03 one which picks up wifi first time without any problems.

Try setting the MTU size to 1492: (in terminal: sudo ifconfig en1 mtu 1492). I did this to avoid having airport drop me constantly, and so far, it hasn't dropped connection once.

Now, if I could say the same for my router dropping connection from the modem...:)

But really, you might try that and see if it helps with airport.

I've had similar problems where my imac will not connect to my internet, but to my neighbors which is slower and a weaker signal.
