alu imac's firewire 400 & 800 = 400?

i have the first aluminum imac and wondering if i use both firewire (400 and 800) ports, then both of their speeds will be limited to 400 mb/s. is that true?

i currently use the 400 port for my western digital drive, which is externally powered as well.

i'm planning to add another external hard drive, using the 800 port.

I think no. It has both 400 and 800 ports right? Then the 400 will be limited to 400 but I can't see why the 800 would be. They are two individual ports
