Hey all,

When the new aluminum iMacs were released, I grabbed a twenty-four inch. It was defective and now I've got a replacement. I noticed both used a white iMac as their icon (as it shows up at the top level in the Finder and on the network). Is this an issue for anyone else? Seems weird.

i not sure not a help either i just wanna say my emac looks like a white square with a blue box in it lol but yea maybe i dont think it would be such a huge issue anyway and the first aluminums came with 10.4 maybe thats why ?

There are icons on the HD ... should be one of these somewhere around in the System Folder.

Interesting, though both the eMac and the aluminum iMac have icons buried away in the system. I've never seen a mismatch until this machine.

Go into System\Library\CoreServices\CoreTypes.bundle (show contents)

and you'll see a lot of 512/512 icons and if you open one you'll see (in preview) all the size icons then just nab the one you want.

Here ... easy enough just to copy and paste as your drive icon if it drives you nuts.

Yes, I saw the icons, which makes it all the more confusing why they aren't used. And unfortunately it isn't as simple as changing the HD icon—it's the icon for the actual computer (root and as a share and all that) that's wrong. And it appears to be a read-only situation. Must be a bug, unless other aluminum iMac owners can confirm their machines using the proper icon.

10.5.2 doesn't recognize the new iMac because it has a new identifier (iMac8,1) I think. 10.5.3 will fix this probably.

no i didnt say it didnt recognize it well it is and isnt i have to look up top on go on finder on the top and i was basically saying the emac one looked like crap lol
:p
