Aluminum iMac: Solution for lack of glowing power button

When I go afk, I like to sleep the monitor on my 24" iMac while still leaving my computer running.

Get a 3rd party mouse that has lights on it, like the one I use...

I find it helpful to know if my computer is still running when I return, and the lights on the Habu mouse does exactly that.

Of course if your computer goes into full Sleep mode, the mouse light will turn off. So this isn't a complete solution, but I can live without knowing if my computer is sleeping...I'd rather know when it's still ON.
 
I didn't realise people actually liked that feature on a desktop. I always thought it was kind of silly on my girlfriends iMac g5. But different things for different people I suppose.
 
I can't stand using Windows or most of the other things that Microsoft makes, with the exception of a few of their peripherals and of course the Xbox 360. I've been an Xbox Live fan since the beginning. And that is simply because Xbox Live is better than anything Sony or Nintendo can dish out.

I'm pretty sure any peripheral that stays on while your computer is awake, and turns off when it loses USB power will work just fine. :)
 
Heck NO! That mouse is too loud in terms of lights and worst of all it's a Microsoft product which doesn't fit well with my beautiful iMac. I like not having the sleep light. Why do we really need it? Like another poster mentioned, if I want to wake up my Mac I just press the space bar. If it doesn't wake up I turn it on, I don't need a sleep light to tell me the Mac is asleep, wasteful.

What mouse do you use? And do you use your mouse for gaming?

I bought it when it came out, brought it back two weeks later. The right/left click buttons are way too long and the bottom under my knuckles just resting would make that thing click. Also the scroll wheel squeaked after a week.

Now I have the Razer Deathadder, it's all go in my opinion.

The no light thing doesn't bother me, although the breathing light was cool looking. I agree thumbs up for the Razer mice. Very high quality. This time around I'm looking around for a good, desktop bluetooth mouse--and the mighty mouse is not cutting it. I'll probably end up with the Microsoft 8000.

I am sad that they did not put the light on the new iMacs. I hope this is not a trend going forward!

I use the wireless Mighty Mouse for my regular web surfing and computing but I use the Logitech MX 1000 for gaming obviously because the tracking is incredibly better than the Mighty Mouse. The reason I don't use the MX 1000 for everything is because I like the fit and finish of the Mighty Mouse and the scroll wheel is second to nothing. :)
MX Revolution is on it's way to replace my 1000.
 
Are the Razer mice supposed to work well with Macs? My first iMac will be here next week, and I have a feeling I'll get tired of the MM pretty fast.

I thought I had read somewhere that Logitech mice don't always work that well with Macs. Is this not the case? I've always loved Logitech stuff.
 
Any lighted mouse will have that feature but I wasn't aware the glowing light was such an issue or the lack of the glowing light. :confused:

No, my MX 1000 works beautifully. It works right out of the box for most of the buttons or you can install the drivers with the included disc for added functionality and customization of buttons. Most of my Mac friends use the MX 1000.
 
I strongly recommend that you try any mouse in person before you buy.
Hand fit is essential. If a mouse is uncomfortable, its other capabilities don't matter, and the fit varies a lot from person to person, so you can't go by reviews.
