In your opinion, does the aluminum design of the PowerBook G4's and MacBook Pro's look better than the titanium design of the early PowerBook G4's?

How about a new 19-inch X1800 mobility radeon 2.33GHz 3GB RAM Gamer edition MacBook Pro made of some Silver AND titanium AND aluminum. Woot.

i liked the darker colour of the TiBook, but i didn't like all of the edges, and that hinge wasn't the best innovation to come out of the Loop.

I wouldn't mind a MacBook Pro in a darker shade a grey.

what, a MacBook Pro Pro? :p

Yeah, I think a darker metal looks better for the PowerBook/MacBook Pro. I was really hoping for new designs for all Macs when Apple transitioned, but I was wrong. I find it odd, though, that Apple hasn't really changed any design in almost 2.5 years:

>Mac Mini is the newest, from January, 2005.
>iMac is pretty much the same from the original, August, 2004.
>Displays have same design, June, 2004.
>iPod Nano can be traced back to the iPod Mini, January, 2004.
>PowerMac/Mac Pro untouched since the first G5, July, 2003.
>PowerBook/MacBook Pro is similar to their introductions, January and July, 2003.
>The iPod has been flattened, thinned, and widened since the original, but still pretty much the same, October, 2001.
>iBook/MacBook is pretty much the same since May, 2001. Sure, they revised it a little bit when the G4 version came out, but the two designs are closer together than the Titanium and Aluminum PowerBooks.

I sense that these designs (perhaps leaving iPods out of this) will not last much longer.

Titanium for sure. :) I may be a bit biased, however, due to the fact that I have grown accustomed to the looks of my MBP and yearn for something different.

I think that the Aluminum looks far better than the Titanium. For some reason I don't like the Titanium look too much. I would be interested to see what Apple's next design for the MacBook Pro is though.

I just can't stand two aspects of the Alumin(i)um Laptops...

1) Ports on the side only. I don't know if I'm the only one, but I often carry my PowerBook around, and I could not stand feeling those ports when I was hold it, plus, I usually have very little space to work, and having ports on the side would take up valuable desk space.

2) Why or why does Apple have the screen drop down on a professional laptop? This design severely limits the locations one can use the screen and limits the angle the screen can be set to. I often have to use my system while standing, with the system on a table, and I could not see the screen if it was limited in angle like the newer systems are.

Looks? yes, the newer aluminum machines do look nicer, I was never a fan of the black keyboard.

But having owned both, I have to say I prefer the form factor of the ti-book. Anyone who's spent time using both forms and tell you the tibook is thinner and smaller, and the screen can be adjusted to a much wider angle.

Not that I'm trading in my MBP for a tibook. But when I did get my MBP there were a few things I missed about the tibook.

I go with aluminum by far. The titanium was a terribly design for a computer. I understand that Jobs was trying to make it skinner but the hinges of my aluminum broke and the screen would press up against the screen and over time it left damaged pixels completly across the screen. Also the bottom of the case fell off. Terrible. Aluminum has superdrive capibilities, and mine still works ok. The aluminum took care of the serious flaws the titanium had.

If i could gut my current MB and put it into a TiPB case I would.
My first laptop was a TiPB and it still is kicking butt for most everything that I do. I never liked the keyboard on the Albooks nor the port placement.

Titanium powerbooks had a warmer design, although as someone else said, not a fan of the black keyboard. Also once you get used to side ports, rear ports seem like a step backwards IMO.

It's not the fact of getting used to them as they are not the best placement for me. I have a MB with the side ports and the placement is always in my way, as I often like to place control interfaces to the left and right of my computer. The cable routing on the side ports makes this a bit problematic, where as the TiPB kept the cables totally out of the way, not to mention they are less likely to be bumped with the hand at the back of the computer.

Though i can see how the side design is a better option for most.

I've only seen the aluminium models so I can't comment. My MBP seems to get "blemishes" rather easily, but I don't know whether it's better or worse than the old TiBooks.

Titanium is a much better metal, but I found those old tibooks not as nice looking as the MBPs. A MBP made with titanium would be sweet, even more durable and maybe a little lighter?
