how come since releasing ios11 whenever there is a update all my apps at the same time need a update? Just updated to iOS 11.0.2 and all of sudden I have 55 pending updates in the App Store. I check my phone for updates at least every other day.

Me too. Whenever I update my iOS, there are a bunch of apps that suddenly need updating, too/.
Perhaps updates weren't being checked for for some reason, even though you thought that you were checking for them (as in something wasn't working for some reason). I had a few updates toady before the iOS update was released, and I think one or two after the iOS update--nothing unusual, at least in my case.
