Ok, a bit of a vent from me, but also a warning to others who may not be aware.

In March this year, I purchased The Walking Dead: Compendium One from the iBooks store for about £30.

After doing a clean install of iOS8 on my iPad I went to the iBooks app to download the book from iCloud.

All my other books were there but The Walking Dead was not. I contacted Apple, and advised them of my order number and receipt that I found in my purchase history.

A lady responded and said that they are sorry but it is no longer available to me as it's been modified in the store.

So be aware people that purchases from iTunes/iBooks will not always be there despite iCloud touting that they would.

That's happened in the past with videos and music. The copyright holder can remove their content from any cloud at any time. I've seen it happen to Apple, Amazon, Google, Netflix, and Hulu.

It's a PITA, but I sync all of my cloud purchases to my MacBook Air, and Time Machine maintains a backup of it. Seems like that shouldn't be a required step. :(

I could (semi) understand if the book had been pulled from the store, but it's still there.

I had heard about it happening with movies/tv shows but this is the first I've come across it.

I've got a back up of the book. It's still in iBooks on my Mac. My issue here is with iCloud. My backup doesn't restore the convenience that iCloud should offer (and what I payed for) by making the book available to all my devices.

Just had another response from Apple. They've stated that the book "that was previously displayed has been replaced by the same one" this has caused the item code to change, meaning it's not available to me. What a crock of sheet.

This is bull. I do buy movies, books, and music from iTunes and always have all because up at least twice. If they want this cloud stuff to take off, they need to fix this issue.

This is like when I got my iPhone 6 and resotred from my backup and noticed my VLC player had been taken away come to find it has been pulled from the app store and out of my "purchases". So I simply, pulled the latest version from my iTunes and dropped it in my phone

Though I agree this is extremely frustrating your "Purchases" might disappear at anytime for any reason, it really keeps you tethered to iTunes still.

If it's backed up, you have it - and should be able to sync it to all iOS devices via iTunes..

This is why I buy all of my books from Amazon Kindle store and break the copyright shortly thereafter.

Just to update. Access to the book could not be recovered but a full refund was given. That's one thing I suppose.

Still highly reluctant to investing money into an icloud based library that has these pitfall.
