MontyZ said:Since OSX, I now use Sleep mode when leaving the computer at the end of the day instead of powering it down. This never worked for me on OS9, but, has worked flawlessly for me in OSX. I only power down if I'm going on vacation or need to restart after an update. It's great having immediate access to your computer when you sit down in front of it instead of having to wait for it to power up each time.
Same here. I was actually used to powering down/up the computer several times a day when I was a Windows user. OS9 eliminted the need for multiple restarts during the day, and OSX has made it a very rare occurrence (I'm still using 10.3.9).TreeHugger said:yup. same here. but sometimes I restart for the fun of it. It's an old windows habit
TreeHugger said:haven't actually been on a plane with my powerbook, but I would definitely only put it in sleep mode. Especially with airport security... Usually you have to show them that your computer works and isn't a bomb. Just waking it from some z's will be much faster than booting up.
Applespider said:Sleep mode on a flight is fine - just remember to turn off Airport. They've stopped asking for you to prove it works now each time (presumably they're more common now!)- you just have to take it out of its case so it can be Xrayed at least in the US. In Europe, they're quite happy just to let it stay in your carry-on and only look if they see a problem.

Isn't that the stupidest way to check if your laptop is a bomb? I mean, won't some clever terrorist eventually figure out how to make a working laptop explode? If so, it'll probably be a Dell laptop anyway.TreeHugger said:Usually you have to show them that your computer works and isn't a bomb.

HAHAHA! I'd love to see a photo of that.mkrishnan said:Plus, I think they figure I can't be a terrorist when they see I have a hot pink keyboard and hearts all over my screen background.
