Always on display issue

I have recently bought a new iPhone and have started using Live activities and widgets on the lock screen in conjunction with the Always on Display.

But i have noticed that while the phone is locked the widgets and live activities wont update. They only do so when i unlock the screen.

For instance I have the battery indicator widget on my lock screen. I turned the charger on and my battery was at 67% and stayed so after a few minutes. Only after i unlocked it updated to 72%.

What is the use of having live activities and widgets on the always on display if they don't update? Am i doing something wrong? I gave access to Live activities and widgets to operate during a locked screen through the settings.

They’re updating but they are not updating every minute. That will take a toll on battery real quick. Normally they’re updating around 15 minutes to an hour depend on app.

Yep. That’s a special case. Seems Apple has a specific name for it. Live Activities or something.
