I find the always on display to not be dim enough and it’s a concern for battery life. Mkbhd said that his 14 pro takes a noticeable hit on battery life and he believes it’s because of the AOD. The whole point of AOD is to have information like date and time and other notifications available at a glance, don’t need the extra brightness.

I do wish it was just the clock, date, and notifications. I’ll give it a chance though and see battery life goes with it on. It’s gonna be most handy for me at night. No more blindly reaching to tap my screen to see what time it is

I would like an option to toggle between full screen AOD or just AOD for the parts of the screen with info.

Battery life is fine with AOD though and that’s while I’m listening to music while working. Battery life better than 13 Max with usage and standby was similar with AOD on

Actually, I thought per Apple, AOD turns off by itself when you haven't used your iPhone in awhile, like sleeping? I'll see if it changes tonight.

seems anecdotal since they had the phone for like 4 days to review. I dont doubt it has an effect, but it will take time to actually figure out how much battery it takes.

While you might not need the extra brightness, many people do need it to see it properly. You can disable that feature for yourself and leave it functional for others. Without a longer time frame to tell for sure, I don't see any noticeable degradation of battery, difference from my 13Pro without it.

AOD auto adjusts it's brightness. If it's too dim you won't be able to see it properly in light. If you feel the need to preserve every drop of batt life, then just disable it.

I’ve disabled it but the implementation could’ve been better like it’s done on Samsung devices for example.

You can’t tell after a few hours buddy come on now

I ran the new phone with AOD briefly, then shut it off as I'd intended to. Really no point to it.

Also fiddled with custom lock screens briefly, found that you either have to choose a wallpaper for the home screen, or it destroys what you have there in favor of a blurry version of the lock screen. Funny, what does your home screen wall paper have to do with it? Annoying.

You can just use the black wallpaper for the lockscreen and display clock date as widgets.
As it is OLED it should preserve some battery (more than a fullscreen photo background) in always on mode!

I have thought about that but I like having a pic. It doesn’t matter anymore. I turned it off when I woke up. Biggest thing I was looking forward to was being able to just look up and see the time when I randomly wake up throughout the night, but it shuts off after a while so I still have to tap the screen to check the time. That was the biggest use point for me with it. I just need to invest in a damn alarm clock haha

I’ve had my 14 PM for two days (NZ here) and battery life on this phone is amazing, at least as good as my 13 PM and that was excellent. Running my 14 PM with AOD on.

I created a new focus with a black lockscreen background for after work when I am watching TV, now it does not catch my eye anymore in dark scenes, but I can still check my notifications if I want to, perfect!

During the day I like to have the current weather as a lockscreen background, very cool!
