"Always Open in Cover Flow" will not stay checked

My Finder windows now insist on opening in some ugly form which has images all over the place in a disorderly manner.

I go to VIEW -> SHOW VIEW OPTIONS and click the box next to "ALWAYS OPEN IN COVER FLOW." The option below that, "BROWSE IN COVER FLOW" also checks automatically.

Then I click on "USE AS DEFAULTS" at the bottom of the box.

It will open in cover flow the next few times I use Finder, but then it goes back to the ugly, disorderly format.

So I go back to SHOW VIEW OPTIONS only to find it has unchecked itself.

It's making me crazy!

Does anyone know how else I can make the default COVER FLOW?

Wow! I believe this is the first time I've ever posted here and gotten zero responses.

Is it that no one cares about Cover Flow? Or did I word the problem badly?

I suspect what you're seeing is because view options only apply to the folder you're in at the time, and default only applies to those folders which haven't been opened yet (i.e., they don't have a hidden .DS_Store file in them yet).

You can use the Terminal to clear all existing view options, so your default will replace them, but it takes some care.
