Well, I was having problems with the iBook I got in December which I had posted about a few weeks ago, with kernal panic and then a bunch of freezing. End results, it had to be sent out for a repair and I think they replaced RAM and maybe the hard drive? It was hard to tell. I guess it seems to be working better now, although I haven't had a chance to use it a lot yet. It just doesn't feel like it is running as smoothly as it did up until the problems started which is a little disappointing, although it could be my imagination. I guess I'll see how it runs in time and hope the problems don't return.

However, the outside casing is considerably more scratched up than it was when I first sent it out. Now, other people may not notice this, but of course I noticed it immediately because I have taken extra care to not get it scratched up and it has been in near perfect condition.

Am I picky to be upset about this and want my perfect computer back to the way it was? I haven't called in about it, but I have thought about it, because it wasn't this way when I handed it over at the apple store to be sent out and I've only had it since December. :(

This is absolutely why I hate mailing computers back for repair. I'd rather take it to repair shops instead. Fortunately, it appears that Apple fixes them at their stores, I think...

Yeah... for what I had it fixed for, they could not do it in the store and said they had to ship it out. I don't know about the outside casing, of if that's a really involved process to fix? I'm just rather dissatisfied about it since it's my new computer, and it's gonna have to last me a few years, and I'm a student who saved for a long time for it. :(

I understand your grief. In the past I sent back a PowerBook and it came back with tool marks all over the top casing. It was like the tech used a flat end screwdriver to pry off they keyboard with no regard for anything.

Unfortunately, Apple will tell you the marks are a side effect of a technician taking it apart.

Ask 'em to put on a new top lid. It's not expensive. Go to a Apple shop in person.

If I sent in my PowerBook for repair and it came back scratched, I would absolutely lose it, then calm down so that I keep my cool with AppleCare, and explain that I want it fixed, pronto.

hmm, thanks guys. I think I will call applecare in the next day or two, and see what they say, and if possible take it to the apple store soon. I suppose it can't hurt! Hopefully they'll be able to fix the top lid casing and all will be on its way to being peachy again!

Well, I called the nearest apple store and they said to bring it in, so I did, and they are ordering parts to replace all of the casing. So my iBook will have a second chance in life at being a laptop model! ;)
