Hi...what are the criteria for getting a Mac replaced....
I have a Gen A iMac 20, 1.8 Ghz
so far the hard drive has failed, was replaced, now I am on my second SuperDrive, the first was replaced... but it is acting the same as the last now!
Called Apple and went through all the phone tech routine and was advised to take it in as in may be a CMU or PMU reset problem, sorry I don't know which he said it may be!
The machine is just over a year old and has spent over TWO weeks in the shop so far...should I start barking for a replacement or not?
By the way Apple has been very courtious about all the problems ...but enough is enough!!
Thank you
R

The same piece of hardware has to be repaired/replaced 3 times for Apple to consider a replacement, I'm not sure if they would include drives in this.

you can "demand" a replacement at any point, but i doubt apple will give you one for problems on 'extremities' (i know there's a better word than that), but i mean, if you had repeated problems with your logic board, for instance, then they might take your request for a replacement more seriously. for an optical drive and hard drive? nah..

It's worth a try...just say you are getting really fed up with all these problems and you need a reliable Mac to work on. You can ask to speak to Customer Relations - you might have a better chance speaking to someone there.
