Hi guys. Well i purchased the refurbished imac 20 (white) last week and i was wondering if i should have purchased the refurb aluminum. The reason i purchased the white is because of the cheap panel apple used on the aluminum imac.Would it be a bad idea to return the white one and purchase the aluminum? thanks

The panel is not any better on the aluminum 20". Color-wise the better model is the 24" iMac.

If the screen quality is important to you the panel in the white 20" iMac was indeed vastly superior to the one in the aluminum 20". You have a slightly slower CPU and a maximum of 3GB as opposed to 4GB RAM but if I had to choose between the two machines I'd go with the white 20" for the same reason you did. In fact, I had a 20" white Core Duo prior to this 24" aluminum.

Now, as mentioned above, if you're talking about the 24" aluminum iMac its an entirely different matter.

It seems that this argument always comes up. The 20" Alum iMac screen quality is not really that bad. Yes, it's not as good as the 24" or the 20" white but it's not like it's unusable.

Go to a local retailer that sells iMacs and take a look for yourself. I personally would rather have the latest version of the iMac with upgraded technology.

There is alo the glossy issue if you hate glossy screens you're better off with the screen you have. If like me you love glossy screens and can afford or have the space for a 24" iMac get a newer version.
