Am I plain stupid or is my new MacBook Pro missing the '#' key?

Hi today I received my new MacBook Pro. I mainly baught this laptop to program on but to my astonishment I can't seem to find the '#' on the keyboard (British layout). How on earth am I supposed to programm halfway efeeicently without that symbol mapped directly to a key? Or am I just plain stupid to find it? Knowing me I am . If it really isn't there, is there a way I could map it manually to the second 'enter-key' which seems pretty useless to me.

Alt-3 is #, at least for UK Macs.

Because none of the other Alt-Key shortcuts are printed/Apple styling, though I agree it'd be useful.

I like the new Apple mouse - but I'm still not sold on their keyboard. I wish there were more third party alternatives available. I'd like one that is powered so that I could plug in my iPod into it. (I ended up buying a powered USB extension/iPOD dock for my computer, but I can't use the keyboard when I connect it to my wife's iMac).

Any USB Mouse works with a Mac (though if the buttons are advanced, (ie not just left/right click) they might not all work. I'd imagine the same applies to keyboards.

Yeah, but it is nice not to have to remember what the Windows key maps to, etc. Isn't it the Open Apple? And in that case, the different layout is annoying.

Take a look at System Preferences==>Keyboard and Mouse==>Modifier Keys.

When you attach a Windows keyboard to your Mac, how does it report modifier keys? I haven't tried it - does it allow sufficient customization to let you use keys based on where you would feel them to be?

I <3 my Keysonic ACK-HL5000s. (As skunk so aptly referred to it, "the Battersea Bridge Cruiser") The volume controls work without drivers on the Mac.

Ahem, yes one is. The euro (Alt-2) is printed next to the @ (shift-2) above the 2 (plain old 2) on my powerbook.

I can understand that tho, as out of us Europeans less clueful people are likely to want to be typing € regularly, as opposed to programmers like yourself who need the # symbol but are likely to know how to find it / who to ask about finding it.

There was a company. I can't remember their name but it started with a "M", they were around for maybe 2 months. They made a keyboard with a dock for the 1st gen shuffle. If they also made it work with the iPod and the mini, nano, they might have lasted a little longer. I never got to play with one, but sadly it did look rather cheap and not fun to use.

But it has been done, so maybe someone can pick it back up.

I don't understand - the Apple iMac USB keyboard should work when plugged into the USB hub that you plugged into your iMac. That would let you use pretty much any third party USB keyboard or USB mouse.

Possibly you need a powered USB (one that has its own electrical power supply from the wall).
