The Apple Store in my mall closed a few weeks ago for renovation. Set to re-open April 11th. Would they launch a new item with this store closed? Wouldn't they plan renovations around the store not doing any new releases? I am holding out for my new imac (presently on a pc and I can wait a little bit longer) but I just wondered is this logic ridiculous?

I would say yes especially when you can order everything from apple.com/store.
Apple has an awful lot of stores around the world. I'm pretty sure they can't plan all renovations around their product release schedule.
Besides, the upcoming iMac revision would not be the most momentuous of Apple events. It won't be like the release of Leopard or the iPhone.
It is pure speculation of course but it is most likely just going to be a speed bump and not a redesign of any fashion. The current iMacs were a major redesign and were only released 8 months ago.
I'm guessing Apple will not release a new iMac until after WWDC08, which is June 9-13, 2008. By that time your local Apple store should be open, renovated and shiny.

This could very well be. It was 11 months between the last iMac revisions and that would make it just over 10 months for this one. It also makes sense since it would match up with Intel's Montevina release at Computex Taiwan (June 3-7).

I hope not, my mum is looking for a new iMac. Its not that the current one is not powerful enough, but 1GB is too little, and we don't want to pay for an upgrade, or mess around with a new Mac. Its got to last a good few years, so we're waiting patiently for the next update. This will be the last switch to OSX of my immediate family, and Windows is causing another problem weekly.

Hey psychofreak, Adding RAM is a snap on these machines. You Remove either 1 or 2 screws, remove cover, install 2GB memory stick in available or remove existing 1GB memory stick and install 2 2GB memory sticks, replace cover, replace screws. If your plan is to get the bottom of the line iMac, the next revision whenever it arrives will still most likely only come with 1GB. Order memory from crucial or otherworld computing http://www.macsales.com . Hope you don't keep waiting and switch out that last Windows machine. Best of luck.
