am I stupid, or is steam a massive rip off?

so steams out for mac, YAY!!!! :) ........... but i used to have a pc, :eek: and purchased football manager 2009 on steam, :rolleyes: on my pc. Now, steam is saying i need to buy it again for mac?? :mad: If this is correct and Im not missing something.... its pathetic. :confused: But if i am missing something then feel free to tell me. :D :p :apple:
 
If you see the Steam Play logo, I'm pretty sure once you have it for PC it's for Mac as well. (2009 should have it, 2010 does)

Also, football manager 2009: Isn't it a 3rd party game? That has nothing to do with Valve ripping you off. It's the company's choice wether or not to charge for Mac versions.

If you already own a game for your PC, as soon as it becomes available for Mac, you do not have to pay again.

You are stupid. All the games that I have on Steam can be downloaded from both Windows and OS X.
 
Interestingly I just saw that FM2010 is up for Mac & PC, and is even part of the 'Sega Total Pack' for $90, although FM is the only Mac game in the bunch.

even Civ4 people are getting Mac version free if they had it in Steam for Windows... and Aspyr isn't getting a penny... apparently Aspyr isn't totally happy about it, but something with their licensing with 2K when they did the game, they have little choice.

Valve said it's up to the developer if the other version is free or not. Just because it hasn't happened now that doesn't mean that it won't ;)

Hell if I'm paying twice. That kind of system would fracture my Steam library so if the choice came up (either buying the game for Win or OSX) I'd go for Windows.

Sort of -- the Mac version of Rome: Total War isn't on Steam at all, so obviously you can't download the Mac version if you paid for the PC version on Steam. Incidentally, this is the route I expected Civilization 4 to take (a late Mac port that's much more expensive than the PC version), but Mac Civ 4 then showed up on Steam as a free download for owners of the much cheaper PC version, so who knows.

Don't forget to emphasis that most of the games on Steam don't currently run on the MacOS and there is no time table to get most of them compatible. Yes it might happen eventually. As previously stated, Mac steam users won't be charged a second time for their Mac compatible games they previously bought for Windows.

As also stated it is up to the developer whether this is the case or not. Steam is simply the storefront, the owning companies choose the features for their products. Items that are free if you buy on one platform will be marked as "SteamPlay". Not everything that is available for both platforms may necessarily be using SteamPlay. If there is an issue with that, let your voice be heard with the developer.
 
I'm not a CivIV player, but I'm curious.

* Is it Asypr's port of the game on Steam?
* If not, is it a Mac native port or a Cider port?

Well as long as you don't blame Valve when a developer/publisher wants money from you if you want the other version, that's fine. I'm gonna be you more than anything that EA will be the first to do so

If EA's cider ports do come to Steam, I think they will use SteamPlay. Spore was a hybrid disk, and the CD key you get from the cider port will let you download the PC version from EA's site.
