Hey guys!

I'm planning to buy AirPods 2 very soon but I've noticed that everyone's going for the wireless charging model. Am I the only one not willing to fork over a significant amount for the model with wireless charging?

I use a wireless charger to charge my iPhone 8 Plus and I find it super convenient but not necessary. With any phone, most people charge on a daily bases and sometimes more than once. With AirPods that already come with a case that charges your AirPods with an internal battery, I don't see myself charging the unit daily. I probably won't be using them extensively everyday and even if I did, being able to wirelessly charge is nice but it isn't a must.

I think a lot of those who are buying the model with the wireless charging case are doing so because,
  1. They want all the bells and whistles
  2. Since the new models don't differentiate much from the previous ones, to justify an upgrade, they went with the wireless charging case model
  3. Consumers planning to buy a 2019 iPhone with the hopes that it will reverse charge other devices just like the Galaxy S10 does
Let me know what you guys think. I am wrong? Am I missing something? Do you agree with me? Am I going to regret my choice?

I went without for a couple of reasons. 1) didn't want to pay the extra $40 2) don't have any wireless chargers even though I have an iPhone XR. 2) don't really think I am going to upgrade my phone this year since T-Mobile is paying for it so the reverse charge isn't even on my mind.
I have the original AirPods and if/when I need to charge them I have a cable sitting at my desk so I would just plug them in so I don't see that changing. I purchased the AirPods 2 because I am not getting the full battery life out of the original ones.

I don’t see the point of paying more for the wireless charging version, it’s convenient for the iPhone because I charge it almost every day, not the case with the AirPods which I charge them approximately twice a week.

I only have one wireless charger that I use when I sleep for my XR. as little as I would be charging these iPods, i can’t see the $40 being worth it. It’s not that big a deal for me to plug it in.

I went with the wireless charging option and my reason is this 1. It's only $40 difference between the one without and one with. 2. It's $79 for just the case if you later decided that you actually wanted one. 3. In the event that Airpower do comes out then it's convenient to charge my phone, watch and airpods at the same time. So I believe that it's definitely worth spending $40 extra for the airpods with wireless charging case oppose to just the standalone case at $79.

If I buy a new pair it'll be with the normal case.
I have nothing that wirelessly charges so that extra money would be totally wasted (and the product is very expensive as it is)

I'm going to wait for a sale I think and then move my Gen 1's to "gym/exercise use" only, as they are only lasting a couple hours now.

Still have my gen 1 but if I do upgrade (waiting to see what happens with beats line), I’m not paying more for the wireless version.

I went with the regular charging case and honestly, the up-charge for the wireless case wasn't really a part of the equation. My reasons are:
#1 - I sometimes use my phone while it is charging. It seems like this would be difficult with wireless charging, even with a stand (think, laying on my side in bed).
#2 - I charge my devices in 3-4 different locations depending on where I'm at when the battery gets low. I don't want to have to buy 3+ mats or only be able to use wireless in one place (leave my phone in one room when I have to be in a different room).
#3 - I'm a little concerned about the technology and how it affects long term battery health, plus charging speed.
#4 - My devices rarely all run out of battery at the same time, and if they did...see #2, I have multiple cables all over the house and one at my office. So charging more than one thing at a time isn't really useful to me.

However, I'm SO glad that Apple was considerate enough to provide options, so that I don't have to pay extra for something I won't use but all the people who love wireless charging can benefit. :)

Looks like Apple has officially cancelled Airpower. I actually returned the Airpods with Wireless charging case and just got the Airpods with charging case yesterday.

I'm sending mine back since I can't get it to wireless charge on either of my wireless chargers. Also since Apple has canceled the AirPower, I don't see a reason to pay extra for the wireless charging case.
