This is an amazing device, but for whatever reason I notice the lack of smoothness in animations (ex. when I switch between apps, or close apps occasionally there is a small stutter); don’t get me wrong, it is still very fast but it just seems that the smoothness is not there, but this only started to happen after I updated it to 14.3 (or perhaps I noticed it just now), anybody notices this too? Would I restore fix it?

This has been going on for me since iOS 14 was released. There are several other threads on this problem, many people having the issue across different devices.
No, a restore will not fix, I've tried many times. I'm now on the 14.4 RC, seems better so hopefully you'll get relief next week.

Update: This issue has been fixed as of iOS 14.5 beta 2. Multiple people who submitted this issue through the feedback app received confirmation from Apple that the issue was resolved with this beta. I feel like we get things like this with every new phone, but... I’m noticing frequent...

I considered a restore because this did not happen with iOS 14.2.1 , it only started to occur with iOS 14.3

With the 12 pro max you don’t need to worry about battery life, this thing is beast.

It ain’t that bad, same bug as everyone else slight stutter when opening/closing apps from time to time on my 12 pro max, apart from that the phone is lag free, quick, and smooth as butter. ????
I seem to have one of the phones without the closing app stutter, but mine stutters on Youtube on 60fps videos and it drives me crazy... also the phone seem to get laggy in animations every now and then... I didn’t get these type of bugs and problems with my older 8 plus and 7 plus.. after years of use... I really hope they sort out this version of ios, as I’m getting more tempted to trade my 12pm for an ultra...
Sounds like a hardware fault, have none of them issues on my 12 pro max, loving my beast, take your phone back to apple and get it exchanged, wouldn't go near the ultra, you'd be downgrading to a inferior phone.
I have stutters as well so I think it's definitely software issues. I have both phones and if you exchange it for the ultra, you'll also get stuttering issues as well.
Really hope they’ll fix this version of ios soon.. 14.5 doesn’t seen to fix anything so far...
TBH, I will be the first to complain here of stutters. Some might even recognise me from my Planned Obsolescence topic which went out of control few years ago. But on my Feb 2021 purchased iPhone 12, with iOS 14.5 beta 2, I ABSOLUTELY DON’T see any stutter anywhere. I tried hard to replicate by closing/opening apps, general animations like multi-tasking, etc but I just don’t see it. I am extremely sensitive to stutters and I actually get pissed if a powerful phone stutters for no reason.
Now held S21 Ultra and that thing stutters like crazy and I realised it within a few seconds of using a demo piece.

Same here. App stuttering when swiping up. Not always but frequently since recently.
