Am I the only one who doesn't want to link everything

Lots of threads from people wanting to use the new functionality to lync their iPhone/iPads, etc.

Am I the only one who is trying to keep things separate? My Apple ID is the one connected to iTunes. Currently it's the Apple ID on my phone as well. I'm setting everyone up with their own Apple ID. But I think I want a separate ID for the family iPad as well.

If my brother is texting me to tell me his girlfriend's ass is getting fat (which I got today)...I don't need one of the kids getting that email on the iPad and bringing it up the way kids do.

If you share a device as a family item, it seems like to big a PITA to synch devices.

You can turn the iMessage app on the family iPad off. I thought I was gonna have to create a separate ID for it, which would have sucked because off all the kids apps I have purchased on my ID, but Apple did a great job allowing their users to turn the app on and off. You can also change the caller ID on the app so you cod still use it and not use the one on your phone.

I am taking the following approach -

1. AppleID for the store. Shared between all the family iPhones/iPads
2. One appleId for each DEVICE to use for both iCloud and iMessage

Nope, you aren't the only one. My Apple ID is my store ID as well as my iCloud ID. My daughter has her own iCloud ID, but uses mine for the store. This way we share apps, music, etc.

I also opted not to use the cloud for my calendar, only because I have GroupWise at work and the only calendar it plays well with is Google Calendar.

That's the nifty thing about iCloud - so far it seems it can be tailored nicely to fit each individual's needs.

I think it's a bit premature to judge iCloud.

That said, nothing can satisfy everyone. Contrary to Apples conviction that they know what's best for everyone on earth.

What Apples wild success does reveal, is many people are easily influenced, respond to what is the easiest, and requires the least amount of thinking.

So they buy into what everyone else has to fill their need for approval & acceptance. Apple has a level of marketing expertise, their competition can only dream of.

There's no question Apples got it all figured out.

This is exactly how I have mine setup across 5 devices. Works well. I also don't use iClouds' email/calendar/contacts since Google has worked well for me in the past and is more robust at this point.
