I'm guessing there is aready thread for this but there doesn't seem to be much talk about it, so I want to get an idea of if there's actually a problem.

Have people noticed a difference in battery performance after their 3GS jailbreak, either on purplera1n or redsn0w? Before the jailbreak I was under the impression that my battery didn't have any problems but now after using purplera1n RC2 I've had dramatically reduced battery performance... for example...

Took the first screenshot, then began playing Spore for around 8 or 9 minutes, it was then interrupted by a phone call that lasted about 7 minutes. So in 16 minutes I lost 5%!! Thats around 1% every 3 minutes or so.

I've heard setting the iPhone up as a new phone fixes battery issues with a non-jailbroken phone? So should I try this, then rejailbreak? Can anyone relate to this issue or am I in the minority with this problem.

I've only downloaded SBSettings, Categories, and Spotbright

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

No issues here. But 1% battery loss every three minutes (while gaming) sounds perfectly fine to me. That's 300 minutes (5h) of gaming! What's wrong with that?

I've noticed the 1% drop like every time I get to using the device. I have however been theming and tweaking for spurts throughout the days. I have SSH off in SBSettings and it helps some. I hear Categories is a battery juice drinking plugin though also.

I still havent gotten to the 20% red warning like I got everyday on the 3G.

So the tweaks, themes, TV Out for apps, and things like running Pandora in the background, numbs the problem of battery drainage for me.

Now if I gotta charge the phone 3 times a day, I will sure go back to default settings, because stock isn't that bad these days with the speed.

Agree and all the additions that JB brings, makes up for the little drainage throughout the day.

yeah i guess when you look at it like that it seems ok, half that time was on a phone call though... when a call interrupts a game does it run in the background or close entirely? any ideas? thanks for the responses by the way

Well, talk time is rated at 5h on the 3GS, so again - it sounds like the phone was using exactly as much power as it should be. ;)

BTW, this is PRECISELY why I hate leaving the battery percentage enabled all the time. It's distracting!! You use the phone for a few minutes, notice a 5% drop, and freak out (when it's actually performing EXACTLY as it should) ... Kinda funny, I think. :)

yeah another good point! i've heard that using numbers and percentages to display battery information isn't as meaningful or accurate as just a graphic, which is why most electronics use graphics in the first place. I don't know if its true, but either way, im going to turn off the percentages and see if I can relax about the battery
