I NEVER let facebook add "my friends" to my phone contacts as they are added in Facebook. Does anyone actually do this to their phone contacts?!? I would never have all my Facebook friends muddled up in my iOS Contact list. Does anyone actually do this?

It doesn't really do that, and most of its access can be configured as well.

It most definitely does... I have all the tracking and gps location turned off in settings and within the app and just last week it knew I was in a restaurant and asked if I wanted to check in there the next time I opened the app.

I bought a bed through safari and facebook only showed me bed ads for a week straight.

It sounds stupid but I get kinda angry every time I see Facebook asked me if I want to do this "great thing" to my contact list?!? I figured I would just post out there in the forums and see if maybe I'm the stupid one here and if everybody else is doing it... lol

I guess it depends on for what you're using Facebook. I'm only friends with people on Facebook that I would also otherwise be in touch with on the phone and for whom I would already have a contact card, so for me it doesn't really add anyone extra to my contacts. I like it on for the convenience of having the photo added automatically to the contact card in iOS. But again, I only have friends and family on Facebook, but I know some people have a lot of "acquaintances" on their Facebook, so I could see that being an annoyance for people who use Facebook in that way.

For people who do not like to have the app on their phone due to Facebook's poor privacy/tracking/background usage situation on iOS, you could download it to sync the contacts, then just delete the app. The changes to the contacts will stay in iOS if you wish.

I don't even have the facebook app on my phone as it always runs and tracks everything you do on your device.

I can attest also that Facebook definitely does track everything and ignores settings both within its own app and within iOS. I have the privacy settings that are buried deep within the app configured to the bare minimum, and I have all the typical privacy settings from within iOS configured to the bare minimum as well, but Facebook makes it very clear through their very targeted advertisements and their very targeted location-based suggested friends that my settings are being ignored. I don't know how Apple allows it...I guess because it's so deeply integrated into iOS it has extra permissions that are probably buried within iOS' and Facebook's terms that we all agree to but don't read. But that's for another thread.

Glad I'm not the only one.

I actually dont use facebook althought i have an account and definitely not shared anything with them (and not my phone number). But it is quite funny that FB is asking from me if i know this and that, exactly those members i have on my iphone or whatsapp contacts. And it is not possible to find them with names either.

So, so much for "we dont collect and share" - they do and link the info with numbers.

Where is this setting? In Settings -> Facebook, I do allow Contacts access, but it doesn't do what you describe. Is this something in the FB app?

I don't even have a Facebook account. I loathe Zuckerberg and his cronies. Read the entirety of their privacy policy and tell me you don't feel the same about them. Reading that thing made me realize how power hungry they are. *shudders*

Not sure if it still works like that because I refuse to load "fecebook" on my iPhone every again. A year or two back I installed FB and it automatically grabbed everything out of my contacts, WTF? Come to find out, there's an option to disable that function, but you have to install FB first and then it's too late. Unbelievable.

I don't run facebook or its app on my IOS devices. I allow companies like Facebook as little access as possible. I wouldn't ever give them access to anything that was optional

Are you sure that doesn't mean upload new and updated phone contacts to Facebook?

Hmmm. Could be be but how it reads seems otherwise... and least to me. Has anyone done this and can verify? Don't necessarily mind updating photos to my contacts but don't want others being added.

While I get that many people use FB, at its core it acts much like a Trojan Horse virus. Its main purpose is to gather and spread your information to as many people as possible, much of the time without you being any the wiser, tapping into every contact list you have and sharing what you read and or reply to with everyone on your friends list, whether you want it to or not. All of this is fine, if it's what you opt into but even with their ever changing updates to security settings, most don't know how little of their privacy is being protected.

Maybe: Settings -> Contacts -> Contacts Found in Apps -> "uncheck" could help in some way.
