time to upgrade my fiancé iphone 4S, she is on 5.0.1 and JB.

i see that evasion jb supports up to 6.1.2, and itunes shows its up to 6.1.3 now. so i see that as a problem?

fyi, i see in cydia that she has backup shsh of 6.1.2. if shsh even matters anymore.

can anyone tell me if its possible to jailbreak still?

Too late. SHSH for 4S is useless at the moment.

There will most likely be no jailbreak for 6.1.3. You'll have to wait for iOS 7. Which will probably be 9-12 months from now assuming iOS 7 comes out in the summer

A jailbreak has been released every 6 months. So I'm betting one is released before ios7.

apple will nonetheless be forced to make iOS more flexible in the future because that is what people want, and now they have a strong competition which they didnt have 2 or 3 years ago.

iOS security is becoming a real PITA. And as pod2g said, it's all about luck (skill too of course). It's why the teams that compete keep shrinking. It's too time consuming for most people to even consider taking on beyond checking obvious areas.

Any ETA on JB would be foolish, but I'd safely bet/assume end of year or early next at the earliest.

Ahh use a few more data points than just jan and feb. Look at the history of the iPhone iOS since 1.0. There was so much doom and gloom that iOS 6 would NEVER EVER be jailbroken.

I wish they would focus on hacking the iOS signing system to allow users to downgrade.

Yeah I can't look at the whole span of jailbreak history, wouldn't be relevant anyways because the climate is different now.

Since A5 with iPad2 in early 2011 and lack of hardware bootrom exploit, it's been doom and gloom for the jailbreak community and lots of casts of doubt, with a coupla breakthroughs. No news is bad news. Finding userland exploits every time is a trickier game, like a half a needle in multiple haystacks. A bootrom exploit would be a game changer, but I have as much faith in that happening as baseband software unlocks coming out again since there's so little code to play with.

...I too hope they can find a re-restore exploit method. It just probably won't be for a while, just like iOS 5.

And I seriously doubt they're gonna burn exploits for this petty 6.1.3 update (feature wise it's nothing, and users who are missing out wise... iOS 7 seems like it's gonna be the bigger elephant in the room when it releases alongside new hardware). I know I wouldn't if I had a say in things, but as always, these guys know what they're doing.

I haven't read anything on an april meet, last i've read is that they don't plan on wasting exploits on a small update such as 6.1.3

The actually were reluctant to release evasi0n.
Don't expect a quick release, best guess is end of this year after iOS 7 release.

If iOS 7 fixes the unused exploits, then expect another jailbreak sometime around July-August (1-2 months after WWDC).
