Hey guys, I've just come across a seriosuly cool feature of iOS5. I don't think I even saw this feature mentioned.

Go to Settings->General->Keyboard and scroll down until you see Keyboard Shortcuts. A shortcut should be already there for "on my way".

But this opens a world of possibilities since you can create your own shortcuts! You can type in "geml" and get it replaced by your gmail address! Or "ceml" for iCloud email address.

Or even better, store a keyboard shortcut for "addr" and type out your address and whenever you need to type you address in, you just have to type in 4 letters!

Here is some of the shortcuts I use:

1. geml: Gmail email
2. ceml: iCloud email
3. addr: My home address
4. waddr: My work address
5. omw: On my way
6. Ioyfd: I'm outside your front door (I text this a lot haha)
7. brb: Be right back
8. fwiw: For what it's worth
9. syl: See you later
10. Icyl: I'll call you later

So I thought this thread might serve as a reference guide and you guys can share your own shortcuts and I can maybe add it to this post for others to easily see. :)

I love this feature as well. Haven't set up a lot of shortcuts yet but this one will definitely be useful.

This feature could put a dent in TextExpander sales, though TextExpander works better because you can have multi-line snippets, like email signatures.

This is definitely a great addition. I just added a few quick statements so far but I will add more as I think about them.

Too bad the forum doesn't have this option:

DKTHB = Double click the home button
or
NCIOAWPIU = Notification Center is only available when phone is unlocked

:D

Swipe from right to left over the shortcut in the Keyboard menu. The delete button will appear.

Duh...Thanks much. I think the fact that swiping no longer works to close an open icon folder must have leaked over into my brain's use of "swiping."

I wish I could do single characters. My Palm Pre would turn an 'r' into 'are' and 'u' into 'you' but my iPhone won't let me do that.

There are far too many folks that could use WTF.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

I use this feature alone with autocorrect turned off (because it annoys me and I type in another language in English letters sometimes). You can make it correct stuff like im to i'm to save you doing the ole thumb-reach to the apostrophe. I also use it to let me say my own words like 'dun' instead of 'don't' and iphone instead of the 'official' capitalised version.

I also type sometimes in an other language then English and and when you type, let's say, Dutch, the English spell-check would be unbearable.

The easy way out though is just to install the Keyboard for that language. iOS5 give you also the option between native language keyboard or English keyboard.
