There are only 15 base line Mac minis on Amazon.com as I right this post. It probably doesn't mean much, but it is worth mentioning.

Wait for Haswell

Well, for the most part, I'd agree that waiting for Haswell is a good decision. But not entirely true for the Mini. While Ivy Bridge doesn't much in terms of performance for remotely any computer out there, it's the first time Intel has a Quad-Core CPU with a TDP of 35W. This means practically they can almost double the Mini's performance with Ivy Bridge while retaining enough power for a dedicated GPU.

Haswell will improve the power even further, 50 - 70 % I'd say. But waiting another year isn't so easy for some of us who already waited last year in order to get a Quad-Core with a dedicated graphics card.

Mmmmm Skylake Octo Core Mac mini with a TB of SDD sitting on the PCI Express bus.

Don't want to ruin your day, but history tells Skylake won't have a 35W Octo Core. The mobile versions will probably start at 65W, maybe one low-end 55W version, but unlikely. ;)

Well if you have already waited this long the might as well just wait for "core aint never going to happen". :D

You might just be right.

Ok

Gimme my

8-Core Skymont based Mac mini
25Gbps Thunderbolt
1TB SSD on PCI -Express 4.0
iCloud Cluster filesystem
OS X and ARM on the motherboard for full OS support.

That sounds entirely realistic - except maybe the ARM chip, which wouldn't make sense in a Mac Mini. As for the iCloud cluster - more probably this will be solver via Thunderbolt, which may well have 20 - 50 Gbps in some years.

Wait for Haswell

Wait for Skylake.:D

OMG don't get me started.

Maybe Can daily chain them with optical Light Peak to create a grid based cluster of mini.

For teh N00bs scratching their heads on these "CPU" code-names --

CPU - names

IB-now / Haswell - Spring '13 (March - June timeframe) Broadwell - 2014 timeframe

Skylake - 2015 timeframe

Skymont - 2016 timeframe

I'm soooo ready for a Mac mini server to run things.

I'm going to wall mount it like this

And yes...i'm going to do the backlighting option.

Wow

I hadn't realized that Haswell was going to come with AVX2

Instead of just crunching floating point at up to 256bits it now will do integer data. The mind boggles....or blows at the opportunity.

Can you please stop starting threads about how many retailer X has in stock or how retailer X has a sale on Mini's? None of this means anything. I've seen Amazon out of stock on a particular Mac Mini before. What's your point?!?!

In the last 4? days you have started:
1. Fry's has a big Sale - 2012 Mac Mini's are coming
2. Mac Mini refurbs out of stock - 2012 Mac Mini's are coming
3. Amazon is down to 15 Base Mini's in stock - 2012 Mac Mini's must be coming
4. Mac Mini's could get upgraded before iMacs since there is a display issue with the iMacs - 2012 Mac Mini's are coming
5. Some random guy on the internet was offered a new Mini for the price of a Refurb - 2012 Mac Mini's are coming

Seriously, we get it. You are excited. You want a 2012 Mac Mini, but posting every little thing that you believe is out of the ordinary (Which none of it is or in the case of #5 is unsubstantiated) is not proof of anything. Guess what? Retailers have sales, Stock at both retail stores and the apple refurb store fluctuate and the status of one product (i.e. iMac) has little to no bearing on the status of another (i.e. Mac Mini).

Sorry, I grow tired of people believing that every little thing that seems out of the ordinary is somehow proof that X is going to happen. Only Apple knows.

All right man you got it won't post another one, but I am amazed that bothers you so much.
