Title says it all.

Huge price drop on the Amazon Echo as part of Prime Day promotion.

Worth it at this price?

No better time to give it a whirl. If you're just curious as to the functionality, get an Echo Dot for even less. I ended up going the Dot route as it let me use any speaker I preferred if I found Alexa useful.

That being said, I now have a Google Home and as a result, poor Alexa doesn't have a chance to speak anymore. ;)

What tbayrgs said. If you have a spare nice speaker you can use with it, get a Dot.

Otherwise if you want a standalone Alexa + pretty good speaker, get the Echo. I think the speaker is perfect for my purposes, which is usually listening to music to go to sleep to. In other words, not loud thumping music :)

I've gone the echo dot route as I've held off buying one of these devices for a while as I didn't know if I'd find it useful. It arrived yesterday and I've been pleasantly surprised. I do have a Bluetooth speaker but I haven't seen the need to connect it yet as the speaker on the dot is pretty decent. I think I will connect it if I want to use it for music. I've been exploring the skills. A lot of them are pure fun but many are useful such as getting information about my commute and reading my kindle and audiobooks and reading bedtime stories. I really want to have computer as the hot word (Star Trek fan) but Alexa seems more natural at the moment.

I was very impressed this morning when I was able to get my bulletin including the news, weather, lastest tech news and information about public transport for my daily commute.

My husband rolled his eyes when he saw that I had bought it. However this morning he asked me too get him some micro SD cards. He was pretty gobsmacked this morning when he saw me order them from amazon using Alexa. He admitted that it was useful after all.

Buy some remote home control wall plugin switches, and watch his face when you say, "Alexa, turn off the bedroom lamp" and it does.

Or get a thermostat and say, "Alexa, decrease house temperature two degrees" and listen for that skill to respond with "House temperature set to 70 degrees".
