So i was on amazon seeing if they had good deals. All I could find was the i5 for $2799. Can anyone explain this?
 
Amazon isn't selling it for $2799, that price is from a 3rd party seller called Techno Intelligence.

When you saw the price for $1999 or whatever, it was probably direct from Amazon or a more reasonably priced seller.
 
Hmmmm. I can't seem to get it to pull up for the 1972 price. Are you saying that they are gone?

Yes, Amazon apparently doesn't have any in stock so the only choice they are giving you is to buy it from an overpriced seller.
