Torpedo1 was awesome enough to post some links earlier to the newly (sort of hidden) pre-orders on Amazon. But, I can't seem to figure out when they'll ship. I did an online chat with someone at Amazon and no one knew.

Has anyone ordered a new mac item from Amazon before? What's the usual wait time on a new release? Next week?

11.6, 2gb, 64gb for 994.00

11.6, 4gb, 128gb for 1194.00

13.3, 4gb, 128gb for 1294

13.3 4gb, 256gb for 1594

I don't know if past history will dictate when they ship. From what I remember, it's varied among the previous releases. Always seemed like it was a few days after the Apple release that Amazon had the computers in stock though.

As far as I know they haven't shipped any yet, but Amazon just sent me an update for my Air order. The estimated delivery date is now July 26-27 (i.e. Tuesday or Wednesday).

Amazon is located somewhere deep in the Jungles of Brazil. They have to put it on a small ferry boat and float it several thousand miles down the river first before it then gets on a plane to deliver it to you.

You do know, it is called "Amazon" for a reason....

Depending where you live, they charge sales tax. I would never buy from them because I'm in California. Nearly 10% sales tax is a deal breaker.

Ah, bummer! It doesn't appear I have any sales tax to worry about. I may go ahead and buy from them..

There's MacConnection. They're all $50 cheaper than Apple's MSRP, and there is no sales tax for California.

How much are they charging you? I know they are offering only $5 discount at the moment. But I thought they might reduce the price further to match other online retailers. I ordered 13' 256gb for $1594..

I'm on the same boat too. I want to order a base 13 and the tax kills it so much. Any New Yorkers got an idea?

I lived in NYC a year ago...did the Amazon tax happen recently? I should read the paper more!

I order all my macs from Amazon. It should be there in a few weeks.

No tax, free 2-day prime shipping (or $3.99 overnight if you are impatient like me). Totally worth it.

I think macmall is cheaper actually, also depends where you live atleast in canada we still have to pay tax on it so its really only a 5$ or so savings, education discount is better if you can get it
