I have been playing with my new MBP all day. I migrated everything from my mid-2012 MBP 15" and everything works that I have tested except for Kindle. Kindle starts, but it doesn't show any book cover images and when you try to open a book it just crashes.

I have a base M1 Air. I didn't migrate anything. Everything is a fresh start. I installed Kindle app from the App store this morning, without realizing if it is already updated/optimized for the M1 chip. After seeing your post, I did a quick check. I can download and open books--tried two, but the movement is slow, and the page views are messed up. Crashed once as well, and I allowed the crash report to be sent to Apple.

Waiting for the optimized Kindle app for the M1 chip.

EDIT: deleted the app afterwards. Waiting for the optimized version, as said.

Might have to wait a while. Amazon is so bad with their updates. The Mac version of Kindle is so much worse than their iOS versions. I wonder if it'll be up to par now that they can just make a universal app.

I’m confused. You connect your kindle to your computer for some reason? Why? Does it not just talk to Amazon over WiFi without the computer?

This is simply laziness on Amazon's part.

Apple announced Apple Silicon at WWDC in June and offered the DTK to all developers. It's not like Amazon is hurting for cash, they could have ordered at least one DTK for Kindle software development.

In fact, Amazon is big enough that they could have been privy to Apple Silicon months before Apple announced it at WWDC, just like Adobe.

Count this as incompetence on Amazon's behalf. And M1-compatible version of Kindle software should have been available on M1 launch day.

He speaking about the Kindle app for macOS not the Kindle device. The latest Kindle app for macOS is messed up and crashes or won't load books. I reverted back to a previous version and it's working again. However, I'm still on Catalina.

Ahhh!

Amazing what a difference a missing word can make. Lol.

Thanks.

Hi. I am new to Mac Rumors. I just bought the Mac Mini M1. I have used the Kindle app and share screen when I teach students. Found out Kindle won't work. I've read your thread above. For what it's worth, from an absolute amateur, though it doesn't feel the same at all, my 11 year old daughter suggested I use Kindle Cloud Reader. Being the bright person I am, I asked, "What is that?" She took me by the hand and, Walaa, I am back in business. Again, not what I am used to, but it will get the job done until Amazon sorts it out. It took me awhile to find the controls on KCR, but once I did, I almost felt like I was on my Kindle Oasis with sepia tone, etc. You all probably are laughing, as you most likely know about KCR, but for me it saved me from having 3 monitors on my desk: the two on my new mini, and my old mid-2011 iMac.

paper books are not making a come back.
everything is on line
paretns educators take hearts to mind if the child cant find it will they never read it.

ios makes a functional alternative to a kindle if the book is local to the iphone iPad. You can totally copy the book in to the dervice you know. No additional apps needed, all the stuff is already there. The teacher can use it in a class room that has no wifi. The sutdent can read it on the school bus.

This is literally the last app that I need updated. Really wish they would hurry... especially since they have already had an iOS version for years now.
