I bought my MBP from Amazon and it has the infamous whine and high-pitching ringing that some of the other support forums are talking about... I sent mine into Apple in order to correct the issues, but according to other posts I've read, Apple is supposedly NOT going to fix whinning issue, claiming that it's "within spec." They are, however, going to fix the high-pitch ringing.

That being said, I think my only option is to return the unit to Amazon, however, I cannot tell from Amazon's website whether or not I'll be charged a restocking fee (they are not very clear in their return policy when it comes to returning a defective item). Obviously, I could just exchange it for a new one, however, I do not want to receive another defective unit...

So my question is this - Will I be charged a restocking fee if I return a defective item?

Also, I already know about the many work-arounds for the whinning issue (i.e., download mirror widget, run Photo Both, install QuietMBP, etc.). While these are viable solutions, it's not the right answer after paying $2350 for a laptop - not to mention, each solutions consumes valuable battery life.

Actually, I called Amazon, and they said they'd give me a full refund for a defective item.

Is it really that big of a deal? How often does yours do it? Mine has the the problem, but it rarely happens. Even then just open up comic life and it goes away.

To be completely honest with you, the noise irritates the dead. Apparently, the noise is less subtle on some machines... For the money I paid, it's unacceptable.

Well even if it happens once a week, it is better to return it now since you dont know what else is wrong with it. Its not like they are giving them away for free.

I'm going through the exchange process now with Amazon.

My problem was basically the LCD buzz got worse, it's on all the time now unless the display is completely off and getting louder day to day. I can hear it over my headphones now, quite annoying. I can stop the noise with pressure to the screen on the lower right. It's louder than my desktop PC here, which I can't hear at all. Apple Store Genius said it was defective LCD, but repair would take 4 weeks right now. So I opted to try to get Amazon to replace it.

Been a BIG hassle, go read about it over here: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/2253728/

I usually have no problem with Amazon, but this whole MacBook Pro problem from ordering issues to replacement has been a BIG PAIN. I love the laptop though, just the noise is not acceptable.
