I have a friend that was telling me about the Amazon music store. It seems to have everything that I'm looking for in a music store. All of the music is encoded in mp3 (i prefer it simply because of compatibility), it is all DRM free, and the prices are on par with or cheaper than the itunes store. Does anyone know of any cons that it has that you can tell me?

Amazon has an app that will automatically put the songs in your iTunes Library when you download them. Yes, there is a Mac version. I have a folder in my Music folder called "Amazon Music" where I have it put all of my purchases from there so I can easily locate that music.
I have had no problems with Amazon. They have great deals daily and have a five for $5 deal every weekend. Those five for $5 aren't always crap, either. Last week, Faith Hill's Christmas album was there. This week, Darius Rucker's country solo album is available for $5. I previously bought Fall Out Boy's was-then-newest album (Infinity on High) for $5. I have also gotten about 36 Led Zepplin songs for $7.
So yah, they have good deals. All things being equal, I choose iTunes just because I want to. My brain says AAC is better, even at 192k. Amazon's store can be a navigation hell, but so can the iTunes Store. Amazon is definitely a worthy competitor to iTunes. I just wish they had an audio format option (AAC or MP3) and I wish iTunes had all of their songs in DRM-free format (which is a total crock by the RIAA).
On my Mac i had to download something and then it added what i downloaded right into iTunes.

You can keep them anywhere, just go into File>Import folder (on Windows)

iTunes Plus (the high quality, DRM-free, AAC) is probably the highest quality, then Amazon is next, and iTunes DRM is lower than either of the other two.
Amazon's music marketplace is great when they have music, although their selection is more limited and their interface is cumbersome. The Amazon application (you'll be prompted to download it directly from Amazon the first time you try to buy digital music) is excellent.
I used the Amazon store for the first time today when I saw that they had the new Fall Out Boy CD on sale for $3.99 compared to the $9.99 on iTunes. I was pretty surprised by this and still don't know how they can sell it that cheap.
I use the Amazon MP3 store occasionally. I prefer using iTunes but sometimes I'll get music from Amazon if it's cheaper.
They might have gotten a promotion deal from labels out of desire to "break" iTunes... Otherwise, it could just be a loss leader, although that's astonishing... I have a song from that album, and I don't even really want the rest of the album, but it's such a good deal....
Yea, I wasn't really planning on buying it, but when I saw the price I had to. And for 3.99, it's not too bad.

That's not true anymore. They have the same artists as itunes, and sometimes have more selection.
I doubt they have the exact same rack of artists (especially independents), but there are a lot of iTunes exclusives that you'll see. For the most part, you can get store-bought albums that are available online at both stores. Amazon and iTunes will battle for certain exclusives at times to bring in more customers. It's stuff like a free music video on iTunes or a few extra tracks on Amazon, but there are little things.
I'm just glad there are two big boys in this biz, but I'm really angry at the RIAA for stiffing iTunes on DRM-free music while giving it all to iTunes. I don't see how it's legal. Can you imagine the stink if only iTunes got DRM-free music?
DRM-free = no copy protection = you can do whatever you want with the music file.
DRM is used to prevent copying of music/movie files to different computers. In Apple's case, that means only 5 computers can be authorized to play the file at the same time.
Amazon's MP3 store and iTunes Plus (songs that have the + symbol next to their price) are both DRM-free. They also are much higher quality song files.
I dunno... in the past three weeks, there have been multiple instances where what I wanted was not available on Amazon and was on iTunes. It might be that for some artists, the newest music was as available on Amazon, but older albums were not. Don't get me wrong -- I did buy things from Amazon in that same time period. But there were also things I did not buy from them because they were on iTunes and not Amazon.
You keep asking these questions in multiple threads... perhaps you should try Googling? This has been addressed literally thousands of times. AAC has better audio quality at any given bitrate, but MP3 is compatible with more kinds of devices. If all the devices you use can play AAC, use AAC.
If you are a fan of AAR this is a GREAT price. I'm liking the album. Real chill.
