Started to watch GT S2 episode 1 last night, and much to my surprise, audio came through as dd5.1! No 5.1 badge on the desc, but audio surely did come down as dd5.1. Did not find another show that did this.

So, looks like no 5.1 is a backend issue, as opposed to an app issue... which gives me hope that it'll be fixed sooner rather than later. (and I hope they don't just "fix" it back to stereo!)

App updated this morning on my phone, to 5.0.1

Maybe that fixed it? I'll be finding out as soon as I get home :)

No more input switching. 100% AppleTV. Turns on receiver/TV, turns off receiver/TV. Wife and guests will be happy with such a simple system.

Coming soon :)

That reminds me of something

LOL let’s hope it doesn’t take that long.

The 5.1 labels are on the HD stuff as well though, so I've no idea what they're doing. "Coming soon" must be the most misused phrase this decade too.

I'm seeing 5.1 labels on most things now too, but it's still just outputting stereo sound. Weird.

Only HDR content? That's a weird one. Pretty much everything is 5.1 through the Amazon app on my LG OLED.

Are you sure ?

AFAIK UHD = HEVC codec and HDR10 (don't think Amazon does DV) is inside the metadata.

Don't they any streaming service offers HDR for HD streams.

Then don't understand why 5.1 audio would be limited to "HDR".

Also here in a Prime Video country (Netherlands) I see now 5.1 labels, but the AppleTV is still outputting PCM 2.0

There is a update available.
Some shows are now 5.1

I tested a few:
Vikings 5.1
Grand Tour 5.1

Arrival 2.0
Star Trek Beyond 2.0

I noticed that too. Still no 5.1 labels and it's pretty hit miss which movies now have surround sound. There doesn't seem to be any logic to either, even within the same movie studio some have 5.1 and others don't.

Are the ones with 5.1 available in 4K and the ones in 2.0 only available in HD ?

Just updated and seeing similar results. Still a limited selection of movies and TV shows in 5.1. Hellboy 2 and Grand Tour in 5.1, numerous other shows and movies in 2.0 stereo. Not seeing 5.1 labels anywhere.

Anyone else able to confirm things like Tick and Red Oaks are 2.0 using UHD? I watched Big Sick in UHD and it came across as 5.1. I have my ATV4K in best audio mode and a Denon AVR2400x.

I assume streaming 5.1 will never come to the ATV3?

I'm still not seeing it on an ATV3 (7.2.2) and Amazon Prime watching Vikings. I do get 5.1 with purchased iTunes movies, and that SpeakerCheck iPhone app, airplayed.

Grand Tour is still in 2.0 for me. I think this is being rolled out gradually, they might be having to transcode parts of their library then replicate it across their CDNs

PRIME VIDEO APP UPDATED TO v1.0.1 12/20:

"5.1 surround sound is now available for UHD content on Apple TV 4K and coming soon for SD and HD content on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV (4th Gen)"

I noticed last night, when I started watching The Royals, my AVR reads Multi-Channel PCM (5.1), but, not with anything else I've tried so far.
(ATV 4th gen.)

So, I think the app update works with it, but, something else being done online, maybe each content file has to be updated, so rolling the update out may take time?

IDK, but, it seems the content is being updated on the server side, so, maybe???
