So just got my Mac Pro a few days ago and decided to test it out with a bunch of games, benchmarks etc..
Was playing Red Dead Redemption too and saw that the temperature got up to 102 celsius. It didn't throttle at all and the fan speed kind of picked up slightly.

Is this normal operating temperatures? I tried to download Fan controller but it doesn't detect the Mac Pros fans.

Normal operating temperatures would be associated with the normal operating context. Running Windows 10 instead of macOS isn't quintessential normal for a Mac. Running games on top of Windows is a context, just not particularly a normal one.

I tried to download Fan controller but it doesn't detect the Mac Pros fans.

For T2 Macs the fans are typically directly controlled through the T2. If don't have all of the Apple Window's drivers and low level software installed that could be an issue.

Mac Fan Control (if that is the specific one in question ) has some workarounds that probe around the T2's control but the Mac Pro isn't on that list yet.

I have Macs Fan Control 1.5.4 and it detects the Mac Pro fans. It doesn't detect the GPU temp, though.

^^^^I have it also, and just for fun, I changed the speed of one of the fans, and the fan did react to that change.

Depends what temperature it is reporting.

See if you can determine whether that is measuring the GPU hot-spot.

It's hot though.

I'd suggest dropping the power limit on it a little bit myself (using Radeon Wattman) to make it run a little slower clock speed. Performance won't drop off a HEAP, but fan noise and heat will.

I'm not sure if boot camp drivers install the radeon tools, but both Radeon Chill and dropping the power limit via Wattman (if possible) will help this HEAPS. Chill alone will be a big help.

My MSI Armor RX 580 8gb never gets above 60°C . . then the fans kick in and it returns to it's average for idle 54°C.

Perhaps the OP's PCIE area needs de-dusting.

De-dusting must also include removing dust from ALL of the cMP's 'cheese grater' front & rear holes too , to improve airflow.

Guarantees 'some' or 'a lot' of temp reduction depending how many years since this was done.

Consider that with side cover on + existing dust that the WHOLE case interior will be much warmer than my cMP's case internals currently are.

( I'm well prepared for Japan's 2020 hot & humid summer. )

How is that? On the MacsFanControl website, it shows that imac and 7,1 mac pro are not yet supported.

Reference cards with poor ventilation may differ.

Is the standard Mac Pro 580 a blower type? Or is it relying on Apple's revolutionary magical new cooling system (don't believe the hype)?

Macs Fan Control doesn't work with Mac Pro 7.1 and Bootcamp

I alredy tested it because I installed 2 RTX2080Ti in the Mac Pro and I'd I like to push more air inside this case. Fortunately I can create custom curves for the Nvidia gpus because I overclocked them but the ventilation inside this tiny space is not ok for blowers. The Nvidia gpus need more air on the back.

"Not supported" not necessary means "doesn't work". Just not officially supported, and no guarantee can work, and they may not react to your report / complain. etc.

I know you are talking about the reference cards. Just want to state that OP's Apple 580X should only has passive cooling. I expected that will run very hot. And the only way to alleviate that issue is by spin up the 7,1's fans.

I believe that the GPU temperature isn't registered via the SMC (or T2). That's in the IOReg, therefore, MacsFanControl can't see it.

However, if you run this command in terminal, you may able to see some 580X's parameters
Code:
ioreg -l |grep \"PerformanceStatistics\" | cut -d '{' -f 2 | tr '|' ',' | tr -d '}' | tr ',' '\n'|grep 'Temp\|Fan\|%\|\|Hz'

I may be completely wrong, but when I played around with the fan controller I got the impression that "Fan 0" is the fan in the 580X.

^^^^I don't think so. The NcMP does have 4 internal fans. The three on the front and a fourth on the bottom left side in the back. My GPU has three fans.

Oh, you're talking about in macOS. I'm talking about bootcamp. I was running bootcamp when the temperatures for too high and I couldn't control the fan. I know that it works in macOS. Software isn't available in bootcamp yet and I run windows quite often. Everyday in fact.

It seems your GPU's fan has died . The Windows utility GPU-Z reports it is operating at 0 RPM . That should not be happening if your GPU chip is 100 C hot . Have you visually verified that the fan is spinning ?

Isn’t the Apple 580X only has passive cooling? I thing that 0 RPM actually make sense.

Radeon Pro 580X has no fans. Msi Afterburner sees there is a fan but isn't plugged because Apple/AMD modified the design, on the pcb probably there is the plug for a blower fan. Also on my RTX2080Tis, made by Zotac, Msi Afterburner reads a second fan. I think the pcb has two plugs for the fans but my version has only one blower. The RTX reference design has two fans, then the blower versions have the same pcb with just one fan plugged.

my bad . I mistook the OP's card for a RX580 . Still , his utility misreports a GPU fan speed at 100 percent usage , which is impossible .
