Hi everyone,
I have a question about the mac pro 5,1, ´cause I'm about to buy one, but I'm not sure if it matches my requirements.
Is ist possible to upgrade it with a rx 580 under mac os Monterey/ Big Sur?
And could you run two of these cards under windows?

Thanks

You can use a RX 580 pulse which will be dual 6 pin mini to single 8 pin on GFX card, if the card has 8 pin + 6 pin you will have to power the 6 pin via SATA or do the pixlas mod. If you power the GFX card via the dual 6 pin mini connections on back plain you could end up damaging the logic board if the GFX card has more than single 8 pin.

RX 580's can have a mixture of both, but the pulse has only 1 8 pin connection.

Ok thanks.
but could you do like a dual setup if your run the mac pro with windows?
because, as far as i know, you can do that under mac os.

You cannot natively run Big Sur or Monterey on a 5,1 Mac Pro.
There are workarounds (that seem to work quite well), like Open Core Legacy Patcher to make it possible, but it can be fiddly especially without a card that allows you to see the boot screens (which the RX580 does not).
Just bear that in mind before making a purchase.

For info. Factory RX580 can show boot screen on cMP now after we flash the cMP with EnableGop.

Also, since RX580 can work natively in Mojave. I highly recommend the user keep a Mojave drive for emergency use. It will be extremely simple to recover as long as he can boot Mojave anytime he want. Even no boot screen, and OpenCore is completely destroyed.

That maybe so, But it is still a hack.
None of this was mentioned in the previous responses given, which implied that Big Sur and Monterey could be installed as standard on a 5,1, which they cannot.
As the OP was thinking of making a purchase of a 5,1 just to run Big Sur and Monterey, I thought it should be mentioned that he will be buying an incompatible model Mac for those OS's.
